I go shooting often (I'm an RCO at a .22 rifle range in Coventry)

semi-auto .22's are fun. We have a Ruger with a 50 round magazine, its amazing.

I'm working on Mrs Puff. I think there is a good chance I'll be allowed to buy a rifle by Christmas. I'm eyeing up Ruger 10/22s and Mossberg and Ruger .223s already.

May have to keep the ammo outside the house though.

I think you can have a .22lr in the uk, so immiediately I would use a ruger 10/22. Mine has never let me down, no recoil, very quiet with a sub sonic round and supressor (which I bet is illegal in the UK). My wife loves the 10/22 as it is so light and has nexy to no recoil.
Haha, that's one of the backward things about the UK. A .22 semi-auto with 100 round drum magazine and supressor is completely legal smile

That's my dream to move to some big country with lots of room and be able to shoot off the back porch smile

Damn.

A Ruger 10/22 is cheaper than my PCP air rifle.

Wanders off to look at what's needed for an FAC.

What is the a legal magazine capacity on .22lr in the uk. Those 50 rd mags have a tendency to fail. The best I have found so far is the factory bx-25 mags.

I like having the choice of shooting off, sorry from my back porch but I do not like to expend ammunition, especially .22lr. The democrats are the bests guns and ammo sales people. A few years back you could buy a 550round brick of remington golden bullet for $12.

10/22's cost around $200-$220 at walmart, the take down model is a bit more. I plan on getting the take down model and a henry ar-7 survival rifle.

My friend has the ar-7 it's pretty cool, but they have a small magazine capacity. It used to be in the usaf airmens surviability equipment combined with the henry survival kit.
Pretty sure there isn't a limit on magazine capacity in the UK. 50 round drum mags is the biggest I've seen for .22. I don't think anyone makes anything bigger.

The other freaky thing is that 22LR ammo is actually cheaper and easier to get in the UK compared with the US at the moment!!

We can't get Geco in .22LR in the Northwest England at present, so the club's got Eley Sport at the same price (7p per bang). Supply problems mean we get a mixed bag sometimes. American Eagle was fun, supersonic and therefore loud. Blazer was somewhat unreliable and Remington, though cheap, was crud. You could hear the difference between rounds...'phut' equalled a drop shot.

I do Bench rest with an Anschutz Model 1813 (heavy barrel) and recently broke the ton with 100.6, after two and a bit years' practise.

All I need now is a new erector tube spring for a very old Tasco 'scope. Crosshairs on the move make for random results.

So what your looking at here is :
Standard ruger 10/22 (serial no. Edited out for security)
Ruger Bx-25 Magazine
Tapco stock
Ncstar muzzle break
Bsa scope

Total is around $300. A very affordable rifle if your on a tight budget. A versatile multirole sporting rifle.
Nice wood flooring. Is that oak?

.22 cal is pretty much only a pellet gun anyway (considered a plinker in mid west US).
.22LR is the biggest killer in the US. A lethal little round.

Death should never be a subject of fun but I always remember a reality cop show years ago where two drunks arguing over whether a .22 would do any damage settled the dispute by one drunk standing on a bar table while his mate sourced a .22 from a woman's purse and shot him once in his chest. The victim didn't flinch, said "nope, didn't even hurt" and dropped dead.

Shooter was charged and convicted with a lesser degree murder while the woman who supplied the little .22 pistol went down as an accessary. Cop recounting the story looked upon it as a tragedy for all concern and stressed that the convicted killers were not bad people.
