A bit council Vol 2

My wife will tell you that it is quite clear which of the children that she teaches has parents who actively engage with their children vs those who are just sat in front of the TV whilst the parent sits on their mobile/iPad etc. She teaches reception class so 4-5 year olds, and those who are talked to, engaged with, read to, are leaps ahead of those who don't get the attention and nurturing they need from the parents, who don't know how to properly talk, or share, or listen, or express themselves. In most cases, of course there are exceptions to this rule

Some of the vox pops from Jaywick on the news about floods today have confirmed its reputation as Council Mecca.
"Come friendly floods..."
You'd think they would hope to rake in the cash by over-insuring their hovels and pathetic household possessions, but I doubt if they know what insurance is."Come friendly floods..."

I don't think phone zombies are a specifically council thing.
Look round at any kids doing stuff event and half the parents will be looking at a phone or tablet.
Indeed, I endured 2 hrs in a church hall for a child's party- 2 of the dads sat near me spent their time, glued to mobiles doing on line gambling.Look round at any kids doing stuff event and half the parents will be looking at a phone or tablet.
there is no way anything like that will end well for the gamblers or the family I think.

Bloody over-protective parents ;-)
The safety inspector at my mrs' soft play suggested that parents being on the equipment generally makes it less safe as they tend to only focus on their own child so are likely to knock over other kids or at least be in the way, therefore staying well out of the way is more protective. Not entirely sure I agree and either way I quite like the slide.I would estimate the on 'phone vs. paying attention ratio quite heavily biased towards paying attention in fact the number of requests for the WiFi password is way lower than you might think.
Changing the subject have we had buying those magazines where you buy one bit of model each week, first issue £1.99, subsequent issues £22.50........

Ahh yes, part-work magazines.Hated those when I was managing a WH Smiths about 12 years ago.
They prey on the terminally stupid - people who think they're getting a bargain, but haven't worked out the cost of the 100-odd weekly editions with a little piece of plastic taped to the front.
I think one of the worst I've seen recently was a build your own R2-D2... total cost was around 800 quid over 2 years.
