I'm off to a do at Bilsington Prriory south of Ashford in the sumner.

It's one of those type of events we are obliged to go to, so I'm looking at splashing out on a nice hotel on the way south, and similar on the way north back home after the event.

Any recommendation for not too expensive places to stay near the Venue? Basically we're just after somewhere clean to sleep and maybe breakfast.

It's a wedding so we'll be drinking and need to cab it to and from the venue.

I'm thinking somewhere on the coast. Would that make for a big taxi bill?

South of Ashford isn't a place I know at all. Any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

There isn't much south of Ashford apart from a big long road and loads of fields. Staying in Ashford would be the best bet.

Have a look through the Le Mans threads. People are frequently asking for places to stay near Ashford before getting a channel crossing.

As for staying by the coast and getting a taxi two things spring to mind.
1. It's a long way from the coast.
2. There aren't many places to stay by the coast in that part of Kent.

Yes upon further examination I am thinking a Trsvel Inn type place at Ashford will probably be the best choice.

Thanks for your responses.

I stayed at the Imperial at Hythe last year, was pretty nice, right on the beach for an easy morning. Good staff. Not sure if that is close enough, but the hotel can probably sort you a private hire.

I can echo the above people and say stay in a hotel in Ashford, you have a Premier Inn and a Holiday Inn to choose from, along with several other smaller non-chain places. Bilsington is only a few miles south of town so I'd suggest staying at the Premier Inn on Orbital Park (its right in the south of Ashford) then get a taxi to the venue.

Rye is only 15 miles down the road, very pretty and right by the coast.

Couple of decent options in terms of hotels.

Ring the venue and ask them to recommend a local B&B. You may even find one you can walk (stagger) to, but at worst a short cab ride.

Personally, i'd rather do that than stay in somewhere in Ashford. You'll wake up to the sound of birds, rather than the M20 and It would make it feel more like a nice weekend break.

Ashford international is the better hotel in town. Ahem not saying much.

The imperial in Hythe used to be a beautiful hotel when it was owned by a local family. The current owners sold off the beautiful gardens for some horrid new builds.

I'd just stay in one of the cheap holiday inns and get out as soon as possible.

(Lived in Ashford for 20 years and still visit mother, begrudgingly hehe)

I play cricket for Bilsington. I live on the coast. I'd stay in Canterbury.

Ashford a bit short of decent hotels I'm afraid...........like others I moved away after 40 yrs and only go back to visit.

Not stayed here but ideally placed for Bilsington and heard good things.

This is a cracking pub/B&B which is only a short taxi ride from where you are.

The woolpack and five bells are owned by the same people - highly recommended, classic meet at the 5 bells on 4th Sunday as well.
