A lot of the posts on this thread are indicative of some of the less attractive traits on PH: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Indeed the instant dislike of someone new who dares to oppose the majority view on here, backed up by the usual suspects. It seems a bit odd to join PHs and just post about the EU doesn't it? We normally get this when approaching an election and people sign up just to post about how great their leader is.

Assuming the car you have is the best car you can afford.
What's worse is claiming any car that you can't afford is just a waste of money. It happens all the time, Mondeo man saying German cars are no better. It's such a boring argument that I cannot stand.Never have I seen someone agree with that who's actually owned both.

Well I have two Mondeos, there are loads of cars I can't afford but I would never say they are a waste of money. Never have I seen someone agree with that who's actually owned both.
Sounds like such people are displaying symptoms of envy and jealousy.
Incidentally no car is a waste of money if it's the right car for that person.
When people claim that others are envious or jealous. It misunderstands the problem the person has, and the one claiming the other is either envious or jealous hasnt thought further, just jumped to a conclusion
To use the Mondeo vs German cars argument. It could be that they dont see the value in paying the premium that German cars command because their line of acceptable value vs cost is drawn lower. Doesnt make either right or wrong
Playing the envy or jealousy card is just a backhanded way to insult someone rather than understand what their reasons are

It's also the default response on here to anyone suggesting that the gap between top pay and the average is getting too large or that maybe Amazon should pay some tax.To use the Mondeo vs German cars argument. There is a difference between envy and jealousy I think. To use the Mondeo vs German cars argument. It could be that they dont see the value in paying the premium that German cars command because their line of acceptable value vs cost is drawn lower. Doesnt make either right or wrong

I can be envious of somebody which to me is complimenting them on their choice, as opposed to jealousy which basically says I want what they have and I don't like them having it.

I've always thought of it as:I can be envious of somebody which to me is complimenting them on their choice, as opposed to jealousy which basically says I want what they have and I don't like them having it.
Envy - I'd like one of those too
Jealous - I'd like the one you have and for you to not have it
But I could be wrong.
