Oh come on. That's way too simple. You've got to let everyone know how upset you are, or it doesn't count.

There are some special snowflakes on here, I dread to think how they'd get on visiting Reddit, 4chan or somethingawful.

I know of someone who's been in the Army Reserves since it was called the Territorial Army. Was out in both Iraq and Afghanistan, been sniped at and had an IED detonated at very, very close quarters AS A VOLUNTEER.

Is now looking to become a blood bike rider when his 30 year TA/AR stint is ended. Wants to continue as a volunteer to do do something worthwhile - on his own bike of course.

Any of you judgemental, finger pointing keyboard warriors feeling brave enough to do the same? Of course you're not.

Stop being a tt. There's a good girl. Try reading the thread and then you might understand what it is all about. It's been pointed out enough times in this thread to the fools that no one is mocking the real volounteers who are a huge benefit to society but mocking the mentally deranged who dress up and pretend to have the history of such people. Whether they are pretending to have military backgrounds, be policemen, secret agents or members of International Rescue.

And if you can't be arsed to engage brain then bugger off to another moralistic bandwagon. Or maybe you condone those weirdos who wear medals that aren't theirs?

Everyone in the Army is a volunteer, be they TA or regulars. They both get paid as well.

If your buddy quietly and professionally does his job then that's ace and no sane person would have any grounds to say anything. The TA make an excellent contribution to the Army.

If however he's prancing around Tesco in his uniform (when not on duty especially) loudly proclaiming his daring deeds whilst dripping in commado/SAS badges/medals then I'd rightly call him out for it and call him a bit of a Walt.

Same for blood bikers. Mate of mine does it, however he doesn't shout about it. Just does it quietly as his way of contributing and making a difference. His Facebook isn't plastered with pictures of polite vests etc! If you met him he wouldn't volunteer the fact that he does it as he doesn't do it for bragging rights, unlike some folk.

Where do they come from? How do they not end up getting punched?

Two incidents recently. All very funny, and I've just been recounting them to a friend.

Last night I went to a public meeting to do with local services. Like a Parish council thing I suppose.

Centre stage in the audience a bossy passive aggressive chap. Interjecting, challenging the speakers - who were just delivering a report - making loud stage whispers hinting that he was or had been very important.

People just let him get away with it until
One speaker on the stage told him to save his questions for the Q and A. When that time came, he was as quiet as a mouse.

A few weeks ago I went to an induction day for volunteers who are needed for a big public event in the summer. They need liaison people to work with participants. I thought it could be fun.

fk me! What a freak
Show.

Several contingents of Walts in some sort of unofficial uniform based around a Royal Navy theme. Some sort if maritime based volunteer group I guess. Very self important and trying to assume control.

A chap who arrived with a clutch of lanyards and ID cards round his neck. He kept trying to collar the organizers saying things like. 'I'm very experienced and I feel we really need a one to one meeting rather that me being with the general public.'

Then there were the disabled. Not their fault, but know your limits. This event won't be suitable for someone in an electric wheelchair. But one guy rocked up, ran across several
Sets of feet - including mine - with no apology and kept interrupting the proceedings with various statements and questions starting with 'I am disabled and....'

Another aggressive man kept shouting 'My daughter is a teacher and she can't be here today but.....'

The final straw for me was registration. They needed five people at a time and one guy decided to divide the group up by tapping people on the shoulder saying '1,2,3,4,5, you lot stand there. Now you five wait there...etc'

The organizers had it all in hand.

Needless to say I ignored him and joined a registration queue. He approached me, tapped me in the shoulder and ordered me away.

'Please don't touch me again.' I Said quietly. He continued to shout orders at me. My response again very quietly: 'I told you once to leave me alone. Now please fk off before you make me angry. '

He went red in the face, made some indignant noises then went off to bully some people standing around drinking coffee.

Why do certain events attract these freaks? I'm probably a freak and I don't even know it!

All posted in good humour.
When I started this thread in the spring, I aimed to highlight the Walts, misfits etc who assume witth no foundation authority and who like nothing better than a tiny bit of status given by a Hi Viz jacket or a walkie talkie to boss people around.

I never expected so many replies. I also didn't expect such fun and comedy gold. Please stop being offended. It's a light hearted topic and this taking offence just re-enforce the stereo type of the sort of people who just take themselves too seriously.

Please lighten up.

Just wanted to point out that your emphasis on the word volunteer when referring to the AR seems to indicate they don't get paid.

I spend a fair bit of time on Reddit, and I like it. I actually find it a nicer place to be than PH, quite a lot of the time.

That doesn't fit your narrative though, does it?

fk it, this thread has gone full .

Ah'm oot.

Not for one moment would I belittle the work of the British army.

However, volunteer? Since national service was abolished everyone in the British military is a volunteer. Regular or reserves, they get paid for what they do.

As for blood bikes, I'm not sure it's Waltish because of the service they provide. I have a friend who did it - in one of their cars - and he used it as a stepping stone post redundancy to a new career as a paramedic.

Depends on the person and their reasons for joining.

There are some who are in it to give something back.

However, there are also a number who are in it because they get to ride a liveried bike with blues and twos.

I suspect the riders who are in the wedding photos are of the latter variety.

Mark Mullen & TheJimi were, if I remember correctly, instrumental in getting the Cringe thread closed.

The defence rests.

I'll be honest Austin. You had bad news recently, and you rightly received a lot of sympathy on here. Me? I struggled to feel sorry for you, because I see you making the type of comments you made above quite a lot - you seem to enjoy sneering at others.

Have a word with yourself.
Totally uncalled for. Bringing that up is completely sticking the boot in. I hope you're proud of it.

Had intended on leaving this thread as I said above, but saw your post and you're right.

What I wrote and what I had in mind to convey didn't work. I've edited my post accordingly.

Lifeboats, run an independent inland lifeboat and nationally declared flood and swiftwater rescue team (meaning we get called nationwide by fire and rescue in times of major flooding).
