In 2016 a cack 4x4 response unit was sent a strongly worded letter by a local council for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security council house to a 4x4 proving ground. Today, still wanted by the local authority, they survive as muppets of misfortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire The Walt Team...

Exactly! Which is why I'm running the Great North Run this year in aid of RNLI. wink The motorists are going to love us, all our patrol cars are getting fitted with CCTV next month to gather evidence of rolling block/closure breaches etc.
Fantastic! Thank you, that is a lovely contribution I hope you get lots and lots of support.

Why do you do that stupid smiley face at the end of every post? It reduces any credibility you may have been able to garner by at least 75%.

Call me cynical, but I suspect it's to try to add a sort of faux-danger to being a traffic womble, implying that no one else can truly appreciate what it's like being a pedestrian standing in a (closed) live lane of a motorway.rolleyes
At least the Wombles get to concentrate solely on the impending traffic, as opposed to ambulance or fire people who face wriggling inside an upturned car, not knowing if it'll get punted down the motorway any second.

If I'm first on scene at an incident, I always make sure any attending emergency services have a safe sterile area to work in.

Having done some out of vehicle safety training a few years ago I can safely say that standing at the side of a fast road is not walt. Drivers miss emergency vehicles despite battenburg markings and led lights flashing and the end results can be horrendous.

And I don't like the wombles moniker myself, I prefer Hippos...Highways Impersonating Proper Police Officers wink

It's his actual job so therefore can't be walty.

Nope, in professional mode when at an incident. Plenty of time for sleeping when I'm dead!

Yes, but by your own admission, drivers don't always comply so I still say working within a strerile area on a motorway is more yikes than parking a Shogun diagonally across the carriageways and then leaning on the spare wheel ;-)

Jesus Christ.

There are some proper Walts around. Boss Hogg isn't one. I've done my fair share of motorway working, road closures, lane closures etc (highways engineer rather than Walt) and the HATOs (as they were) were bloody useful, and at night on a motorway full of IT professionals in their leased VAG diesel doing 90mph, the lights, high-viz etc can be a life saver.

All this "Womble" talk just repeats a Clarksonism and makes the user look like a disrespectful bell-end. What's the matter, did a traffic officer bum your husband/wife/dog?

Save the mockery for the proper Walts. The real "one-eye-open"ers.

If the incident is a blowout, where is the benefit of wiping everything down with Milton fluid? I'm confused smile

Am I missing something? I thought that "Walts" were the guys who like to pretend they are some sort of official involved in protecting the public.

BossHogg actually is employed to do it so why does he get included?

Are the Police actually Walts with a badge?

Ever tried to change a wheel on the side of a DC or motorway? I have, with a road traffic police car in attendance and had a lane closed. It was still a fking nightmare.
