New 'Walter Mitty' law to be introduced.

Up to 6 months in prison and up to £5000 fine for anyone found to be wearing medals not awarded to them, wearing military uniform not award to them, or otherwise falsely claiming to be a veteran.

Doesn't go far enough in my opinion... the punishment for pretending you were in the armed forces should be that you are forcibly admitted into the army and made to do 12 months training biggrin that should hopefully stop all those people we've all met at some point that "used to be in the SAS"....

A weekend of door security at the gay, Jewish disco in Kabul would be more efficient.

I'd say there definitely needs to be some specific exemptions to allow family members to parade a deceased relative's medals.

There were lots of folk on parade at the Remembrance Sunday service at the National Memorial Arboretum wearing other peoples' medals. It's usually done by wearing them on the right side of the chest so that it's clear that you're not claiming them as your own. It was great to see lots of WWII stars brought out into the light for a day, even if the recipients are no longer with us. My personal highlight was having a chat with a 96 year-old RE veteran who'd served with a couple of the same Regiments I'd served in a generation or two later.

Happily I don't recall seeing anyone who I thought looked particularly Walt-ish. Fake/bogus medal groups often stand out like a sore thumb because the wearer hasn't done their homework regarding which medals are normally found together. Or they wear them in an obviously wrong order. But that's the issue with these 'pretenders' - civilians are often taken in because they know no better, whereas a genuine veteran can usually sniff a Walt out in short order because there's always a clue in how they wear a beret or a set of medals, plus they're always followed by the whiff of BS.

Look. I'm in too good a mood to get into a silly internet pissing match with an obvious troll. If you think you'll stoke me into posting personal details or owt else on here, then you've a long future ahead of you that's going to be filled with disappointment. I'm 46 years old, not 14. I post on these forums in the hope of interacting with other grown-ups. I can't be bothered with fighting unknown halfwits on the internet. I had a lifetime of fighting, usually against bureaucracy and a shortage of resources, but occasionally against an enemy that actually was defeatable.

I bid you good day.
