Patek Nautilus 5711/A
Discussion
Hi guys,
A friend of a friend has taken delivery of a brand new Patek 5711/A, blue dial. Genuine UK 2016 retailed watch. Receipts, papers, everything still sealed and in wrap as brand new.
For some reason he has decided he wants to sell the watch and I'm thinking of buying it. I must admit to not knowing much about Patek in general but having seen the watch I've fallen in love with it.
I'm trying to justify the purchase as an 'investment' which my friend tells me I won't lose (he's already a Patek owner).
Apparently the waiting time on this model is around 2 years? And they are very hard to come by? I have no idea if this is true.
The seller is selling at a small premium and I'm wondering if I should buy it. Price of the watch is 21k and I'm hoping to get some off it, but don't think it will be much. It's good chunk of cash to throw at a watch!
Any words of wisdom would be very much appreciated.

Yes, the blue dial ones are certainly a little rare to come across.
I would still want to pay a little under retail though, otherwise just get your name down on the list and enjoy the experience of buying brand new from Patek / authorised dealer directly. Even if it means a bit of a wait.
But that's just me, if you want it now, then pay the money and enjoy a great watch.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Is a two year wait realistic for this model? Also, what's the list price for this model? Not knowing the Patek world it feels like I'm a little out of touch with pricing and I'm relying on Google, which isn't very clear. I'll be ringing around on Monday!
I don't mind paying a small premium if the waiting lists are *that* long. How well do we think this model will keep its value?
Thanks again guys

Very nice watch. Would love one myself...possibly the ultimate in understated style. However, that sounds pricey and I don't think they're particularly in short supply? Could be wrong on this particular model but feel like I've seen them in stock in London jewellers.
Any dealer in particular fresh kid? PM me if you prefer. 21K to 16K? Investment? NO unless you're not intending to wear it of course. As soon as you peel the stickers off (assuming, like Rolex they have stickers on the watch) it will lose value. Of course if it is indeed a 2 year waiting list then you'll pay a premium for the watch, but its anyone's guess how much that would be.

Looks like £21k is too much but £16k would be a steal.

A couple of years ago I decided I wanted one, called around a few dealers and had a brand new one on my wrist within a week (paid list price). At the time everyone said I'd have to wait months.
Earlier this year I decided to sell. It was in mint condition and it went for about £2.5k less than I paid.
There's no way I'd pay over list for a second hand one.

I agree with the above, I bought one and found one relatively easily, luckily enough I bought it quite well but lost around £800 when i sold it after 2 years. So buy it but not over list, I never wore mine, but when I did it picked up marks so easily. Lovely lovely watch but as always you have to buy well. £15,500 sounds right.

At 25%, that isn't a small premium, your 'friend' of a friend is ripping you off.A friend of a friend has taken delivery of a brand new Patek 5711/A, blue dial. Genuine UK 2016 retailed watch. Receipts, papers, everything still sealed and in wrap as brand new.

If you can't wait, then Chrono24 for a small premium, if you can wait, then the AD
The world has gone made for the 5711/A. Absolutely NUTS for it. It's suddenly gone from an unremarkable PP to unobtainium. That's not to take anything away from the watch, which is a lovely, well designed piece from the best of the best, BUT it's nothing like as special as demand would suggest.
It's PP's Stainless Daytona. So exclusive that "everyone" has one...!
As a new watch, it'll command over list for a while to come I think.
