Only arrived last Friday (13th) and today, on only its second outing, it has died a death

Engine runs, cutter deck works, but no forward / reverse movement from the tractor

It is a MTD RE125 Transmatic

I bought from costco on line and have already spoken with them. They are going to arrange for it to be looked at asap and will offer a repair / replace / return accordingly

On our John Deere there is a lever at the rear that you can use to disengage the drive to enable you to push the the mower around manually, if this is left disengaged it will give the same results that you are seeing. Unsure if yours has a similar feature.

I've had this twice:

Once the lever to pull to allow it to freewheel (ie so it can be pushed) had been moved
Once a roll pin that went between the lever and the rear axle had dislocated

It has a 3 position lever F(orward) N(eutral) R(everse)

In any of the 3 positions, there is no drive and it can be pushed

It could be something as simple as a linkage out, or something more significant

Were it older, I would be inclined to investigate. However, given that I have only had it a week and that it has only had a couple of hours of light use, letting the supplier deal with it seems the best option

That refers to hydrostatic drive units, mine is a transmatic and doesn't, therefore, have said lever...

It has been taken away and I have rejected it

Costco is refunding and I am looking at something with a bit more oomph

The Cub Cadet 1224KHP is recommended so far. What else should I look at?

Was going to say, that Costco are very good with returns and replacements so let them deal with it, but you've already sorted it.

I have a Cub Cadet - it's the 1018 with Kawasaki 650cc twin. Bought it as a used demo with 58 hours on the clock for under £2k.

It's very good - easy to use, fast, powerful, etc. It's hydrostatic which I prefer.

Yes, to be fair to Costco, they haven't put a foot wrong so far

My parents bought a set of kitchen chairs 2 years ago, one of the legs snapped recently on one seat.

They took the whole set back and replaced it with an equivalent without any quibbling whatsoever.

I buy stuff from there all the time now because of this, even if its slightly cheaper elsewhere. Much of the electrical stuff comes with 5 years warranty free of charge!

The Cub Cadet 1224KHP has been delivered this afternoon. It is marvellous. It was double the money of the previous machine and was worth every single penny of the extra for the work it has to do
