Crazes: A flash in the pan - then it's gone.
Discussion
As a kid in the early 80's I remember jeans which were your normal blue jeans but with a light blue pinstripe through them.
And also in the 80's blue jeans with a checked pattern. Neither fashion lasted very long. The checked jeans made you look like you'd borrowed Rupert the Bears trousers.
Having to wear a smart shirt, and no jeans/trainers rule to get into most pubs on a Friday/Saturday night for fear of being turned away at the door. (This was in the 90's, not talking clubs here but town centre pubs!) Nowadays people can wear what they want, the pubs are that desparate for business.

Chewbacca Masks.
If you haven't seen it, the video is very funny...

but why my wife bought one for her and one for each of the kids is beyond me.

Mwahaha, never heard about that one.- I didn't do it, but I was aware of it.
Was gonna say Rubik cubes but someone beat me to it (used to be able to solve it too, best time was I think 55 seconds, only because the last layer happened to complete itself while I was solving the middle layer)

Paying for phone ringtones. Used to be really big business, I'd imagine it doesn't exist now.
Apple still sell ringtones, as far as I recall. iPhones are finicky about ringtones if you make them manually (it involves changing file extensions and suchlike), so I imagine there's still a market for people who can't be bothered with that.HTP99 said:
Pepe jeans with the plastic keyring things, also similar keyring things in luminous colours with extendable coiled plastic, similar to the phone lead on an old phone.
I swear you can still buy Pepe Jeans to this day. I've been in a Pepe Jeans store, in fact. I wasn't around to see the plastic keyrings so I have no idea if they still make those or not. I didn't take too long looking around so I have no idea how they stack up to Levi and the other big names. What about Beyblades? They were around when I was in school for what felt like an unusually short time, probably a school year or slightly less? Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like trading cards soon came back into trend.
Coca Cola brought back Tab Clear for a bit in the 90's (with this advertising campaign.
My favourite fad was the Global Hypercolour T-Shirt though. The company couldn't handle its success and only lasted a year, I think:
But I actually miss all the cool bright fractal T-Shirts that were everywhere when I was a kid.

Deelly Boppers
Hi-Tec Trainers. Nike Air Max in various forms are still about. I had a pair of black and white Classics in 1993 which I loved. Held onto them for 9 years and despite being practically unwearable I still didn't want to throw them away.
Blokes with bleach blonde hair; think mid 90s Gazza et al.
'Funny' car stickers printed in day-glo colours 'Don't follow me; I'm lost too!!!'
The fake plastic fingers on boot lids
Stick-on Garfields
Louvered rear window thingy for cars (usually on Capri's or Cortinas)

Yes! And for a while you could buy keyrings that made laser gun and explosion noises for when you were frustrated in traffic.Stick-on Garfields
Vinyl roofs werent really a flash in the pan, but would seem odd now. Likewise wooden outer frames- who wanted that?
