you can't suggest that someone deletes their account just over a thread that didn't go very well.

I don't know if you saw my absolute car crash of a thread earlier this week, but I didn't delete my account.

And you've been on here since 2005, so you must have had threads that might not have worked out like you wanted it to - but I don't see you deleting your profile
Nope, missed it; sorry!

But I have seen other car crash threads like this one in my 11 years here; and the resulting havoc caused by an ex joining to post & stalk frown

It's one of the reasons for the 2 week rule iirc

You're completely missing the point...

She said to delete it because the ex(?) knows about his account and so can check up on what he is posting into the future. If the OP wants to avoid this the only way is to create a new account, as even if he changes the name she can find an old post, click on his old username and it will take it to his profile page. Which will have his new username. This all depends on the ex being a crazy stalker, which we don't know, or the OP actually wanting to hide everything on PH from her.
This is true. You are allowed to close an account and start a new ID, providing you tell the mods - who are very, very helpful on this topic. They are reluctant to delete a profile and posts unless in extremis as it breaks a lot of threads.

Maybe best to lock, close and have a new profile.

Ah man, this thread had so much potential, and it all ended disappointingly amicably.

Not that I wish anyone a bad run in life, of course.

OP

Don't be friends. She's 120 miles away and in the past. You and her are done.

It's pretty harsh, but you need to move on.

Does she have a dog?

Are you trying sunny's approach with a much lower bar? hehe

But yeah, 120 miles away, failed relationship. No point in being a dick, but at the least dont go back to texting eachother daily again... might as well hand her your nads in that case

Best to cut of contact for 6/12 months. If you find you want to rebuild a friendship at that point...

@OP. If you say that you have to cross London to get to her, why don't you agree to meet somewhere in the middle? Take her up the oXo Tower in the Bistro at lunchtime.

It's all done now. So no need to take her up the Oxo tower or up the shard either.

annoying little things like leaving her contact lenses on the side table and stuff I began to get annoyed. I have brought up those little things with her and she had tried to be fair.
No offence mate, but fk me if you're bringing up stuff like that with her she's probably already shagging someone else & trying to work out how to dump you.

Despite what everyone says, it's always difficult to do and there is no excuse whatsoever for doing it in an insensitive manner when you can achieve just the same in a nice way.

I favour saying "Put your hand up if you have a boyfriend......Not so fast love" and walking away. She will appreciate the humour.

You just have to do it (face to face) there is no good way of ending a relationship unfortunately...

She is with her family, she will have support.

At least you don't live with her, that makes it a WHOLE LOT worse, trust me! Sack off your job and go travelling! Easy to 'meet people' staying in hostels etc.

EDIT, I see you've done it (read the fking thread). The travelling part is still valid though smile
