After some advice from the legal knowledge here please. My son has been cited as witness in a case and has attended three times on the due date only to have the case put back. He is a self employed seafarer and has had to come ashore from his 10 day trips with the resultant loss of pay. His letters from his lawyer are worded that if he does not appear a warrant will be issued for his arrest. I understand that cases can be cancelled for any reason and losing a days pay is bad enough, but he has worked out he has lost around £13k in earnings so far. Is there any way he can be compensated by the court? He is suffering financially and not in a position to lose anymore time off.

Why would a witness have a lawyer?

There's plainly more to this.

The short answer to your question is probably not, but if he has a lawyer then you should direct your query to him.

Thanks Mike, he already has this info and it appears that is all he can claim.

He needs to write to the court and explain the situation.
