Do you remember them nasty polyester and nylon rally jackets from the 70's?
I am talking about the sort of thing that would be compulsory attire at any motorsport event be it race track or forest but offered very little in the way of protection from the rain or wind.
Here are some example's

I remember wanting one of the proper Ford RS forest jackets , you know the one with the brown fur lined collar but ended up getting the much cheaper Rallye Sport non official version.

Lets see them retro rally jackets........

I had both the Castrol and Ford RS jackets smile The Castrol ones were given as part of a small sponsorship package whilst the RS Ford ones were mandatory back then wink

I have a virtually un-worn one of these at home in a suit cover. Forgot all about it for decades, until discovering it a wardrobe last year when clearing out my late mothers house frown
Must get around to putting on the bay of evil one day smile

I remember getting a BRITAX rally jacket as a freebie when marshalling back in the 70's, I also had two Firestone jackets given to me by the tyre rep visiting the garage that I worked for.
I thought I was the bees knees back then as an 18 year old with the latest kit

I had a Shell one which went up like an Australian bush fire when caught by a stray firework at a display when I was 13.

The "proper" Ford RS forest jackets (as above) that were used by the Works team were REALLY warm. Dad still has one and uses it regularly, they were great quality.

I have a Camel (other forms of cancer are available) Lotus F1 jacket somewhere in BRIGHT yellow, that was comfortable, but it stood out in a crowd...

Is that the British Leyland executive hospitality VIP accommodation suite in the background? As much Hofmeister, B&H and chesty Brummie lasses on tap as a grown man could manage? I bet that could tell some stories...

This fantastically period publicity photo of Sir Jackie has him modeling a real 70's classic jacket. By the way , the car's not bad either

I had a polyester Yardley McLaren jacket - in bright orange , natch, as did the 3 friends who watched the 1973 Grand Prix with me . Peter Revson won - in a Yardley McLaren M23 - and as he came by on his lap of honour he saw us at Chapel and waved back!

Anyway..the definitive rally jacket was the achingly cool Dunlop one - black with a yellow stripe down the arms . I wanted one so much it hurt

To me the classic forest jacket from back in the day, how it has survived over 30 years is a minor miracle!

Edit to add bugger sideways, although as I watched Ari and Henri in the Manta 400's wearing that somewhat apt..

Don't have a picture, but does anyone remember the FordSport Club launched by Ford in the late sixties/early seventies? As a young teenager I had one of their royal blue rally jackets (with 2 light blue stripes down each arm I seem to remember). My dad had a FS grille badge on his Mk 1 Lotus Cortina as well. Happy days smile

Found this Walter Rohrl rally jacket a few years back whilst rummaging through the stock in TK Maxx. Although it was a lot later than the classic shiny jackets of yesteryear I thought it was worth a punt. Only wore it once as I looked a bit of a plonker in it and then sold it on. Nice bit of history although I think it was aimed at the lifestyle market rather than a true rally item.
