Morning All.

Will be getting a one-way ticket to Australia in January, and was wondering in peoples experience with different companies?

So far Emirates probably look the best in terms of reviews without being too pricey.

Any other input?

Thanks

Which class will you be flying? I always choose Emirates when I go East and I'm fortunate that my employer pays for business on long haul (which occasionally gets upgraded). Emirates business is quite nice with the bar upstairs. Emirates First has the bar + a shower + private cabins.

Whoever you fly with, for that distance, you really want to try to stretch to Premium Economy at the absolute minimum.

Qantas are pretty good. However, their PE seats always fell as if you sliding off the front, though. BA have more comfortable seats that Qantas but worse food and IFE. Air New Zealand always rank well. I did a few legs around Asia on Singapore Air last week and they weren't too bad.

If you are transiting through Changi (and don't have lounge access), take a spare T Shirt etc and grab a shower there (there are a few places where you can get a bite to eat and a shower for $10 - $15.

I've never had to look, but aren't one-way tickets often more expensive than buying a return? What would happen in you purchased a return, but didn't use the second sector?

From looking at various fora, I think there are some good deals if you travel from Dublin etc and so avoid UK duties. I'd imagine somebody more knowledgeable will be along shortly with better info.

Will be economy unfortunately! We may be able to stretch to premium economy we are going to Australia on a WHS so money will be tight!

If you can stretch to PE, do it. It's the difference between feeling like a zombie for a day or two after the flight and 3 - 4 days after days after the flight

IMO going to Aus in Economy will be pretty miserable whoever you fly with. I've been to NZ with Emirates, China Southern and Oman Air. China Southern weren't great but they were miles cheaper than the others and the plane didn't crash.

Load up on booze and go to sleep!

A lot of people dislike Emirates, myself included.

If you have to go econo then I'd try Singapore, Cathay or Qantas. Thai and Malaysian are also not bad.

If you can go PeY then as others have said, it is a whole lot better than whY.

If money is tight then go for economy it's 24 hours of being uncomfortable but will save you probably £600 each on PE if not more, and a day after you've arrived how comfortable or not you've been on the plane will be a memory. I recommend Singapore airlines.

Correct. You'll feel like a lukewarm corpse whether you fly economy or PE.

Have a look at Qatar Air via Doha. New planes with latest in-flight media and superb cabin staff.

Transit in Doha is excellent as the new airport was only opened last year and is huge with excellent facilities.

The airline is not "dry" so it is not fruit juice all the way.

I've done it once with Emirates and once with Qatar. Both were pleasant enough experiences. Emirates were professional and efficient from check in to landing, the food was good and the entertainment system the best I've ever used. Large HD screens, and even on board wifi (which wasn't cracking, admittedly) I think nowadays most of the larger more experienced long haul companies provide a pretty good standard service but I'd recommend Emirates on my experiences.

Edit: They have their own terminal at Dubai and transition is dead easy and fast, huge and modern too.

Double edit: I almost died after paying £26 for two beers and a shandy mind. But I'm from Yorkshire.

Whenever heading east, for me its always one of Singapore, Emirates, Qantas. Air NZ are good also.

Qatar airways are rather decent and reasonably priced. I think with Ethiad though its been touch and go with me.

I wouldn't bother wasting your time with BA.

I went with Emirates economy and couldn't fault it at all, good food and entertainment. It is only a day, save your money for the rest of the time in Australia.
