local car park has upgraded to new pay n display machines , i noticed its got a sign'no change given' so got me wondering how do they account for the money theyve decided to keep , will they be paying tax on it

and what a scammy bunch of money grabbers , machines have been capable of giving change for years

I'm assuming that the machine would record the total amount of money received and therefore tax would be payable on that figure.

But I've been wrong before!

isnt it a bit spitefull and nasty though , even the meanest tightwad corner shop owner gives change lol

they just know damn well people will hoof in poundcoin for 40p worth of parking , which still shows price paid 40p and wont add the extra time on

40p for parking, wow, where do you live?

I hate pay and display machines that only take cash, it's the 21st century FFS; when we go to the cinema there is always that last minute dash around the house to try and find enough coins for parking, we very rarely have cash on us and I hate having to get a tenner out of the machine to then go and buy some gum to get change for the pay and display machine.

Tried RingGo recently having just changed number plates on the car. Took me over 10 mins to try to get their system to accept the number plate was now on a different car and in the end had to give up and go get cash.

After a legal challenge, the details of which escape me right now, the P&D machines in the Thiefdom of Basingstoke now give 30 minutes' free parking if you simply hit the green "Issue ticket" button on the machine without putting any money in first.
Obviously this gracious and humbling gift from the tossers at the council received widespread and extensive publicity......oh no hang on, what I meant to say is, they told no one, and left it to social media to spread the news as rumour.

In this day and age there's no excuse for these machines not to have contactless card payment.

Where does the OP state it's a council operated car park?

They've just spent six figures upgrading the meters in our town centre to ones where you put in your reg. Council can't seem to work out that for years our town centre has been dying on it's arse, and loads of shops have abandoned ship, so if anything they should have been reducing the costs and making it easier to park there to encourage people to go. Before they upgraded them I believe they wouldn't give change or credit part hours.

At the very least a pro-rata calculation if you overpay. It's so 1970's, which is no surprise as that is the blueprint for modern councils smile

The NCP machines in MK need a reg too, the council ones don't.

Only possible reason is to stop you giving someone your ticket which still has an hour left (because you had no change so had to put £1 in) so that they can make someone else pay for that hour again.

My local shopping/cinema/parking complex has recently upgraded all the machines to accept contactless payments. Which is lovely.

They've also changed the minimum parking tariff from £1.20 to £2 at the same time... Thieving s.

I went to Bournemouth recently and the bloody machines didn't even take card and the pay by phone didn't work so I just left my car and got 4 hours for free.

I believe the same applies in Kensington in London where parkign is something like £4.20 an hour.
