I'm thinking of putting my vantage on a private plate. The front plinth has already gone.

There are a number options but I don't want something Chavtastic, this is my top choice. I thought I would just check in with you guys.

In NZ there is quite a choice available, see www.plates.co.nz , others include;

00AM

ALHC

DRAC1

4C1

A SPY

4 MI6

They are combinations of initials or Aston related, any better ideas?

I would go with your first choice (AML V) without any doubt.

Avoid anything with SPY or MI6 like the plague though unless you want to undo all the good work of actually having an Aston.

DRAC1 is obviously pretty apt, but AML V just fits perfectly on your car.

Hi Julian, my thoughts exactly but as you can imagine the spy options are pretty popular with my kids.

First choice is just fine. The spy and mi6 options are fine too IMHO and I have no idea why some people get so worked up about it. Personally I'd shoot for a 007 linked plate on a 007 car (vanquish, DBS etc)

Which Bond film was the Vantage in?

(They look tragic, btw.)

I said Vanquish not vantage. The older v8 was in one of the Timothy dalton films I think.

I do like "personal" plates and have something personal to me on all my vehicles ie. nickname, initials. I dont get the point of paying for the cars name or brand on the plate, as usually its pretty obvious and the manufacturer has put a badge on the car somewhere wink

so my vote would be "DRAC1" smile

I preface my comments by saying this is certainly a a First World problem.
My choice would be AML V.
The AM range is considered by many to be understated and therefore the 007 and spy connotations are considered a bit naff but it's the OP's car so not my decision.
What do you think the of plate on this beautiful Bentley ?

Without doubt a first world problem but so is choosing which car to use each morning. I was uneasy about the spy plates myself that's one of the reasons I threw it out for feedback. The kids, like 99% of normal people only know that Bond drives an Aston, it's only on a forum like this that it's important it was a DBS etc.

A M L V was a my first choice because it was subtle and most wouldn't get it anyway. I wasn't so keen on a plate with V8 in it as most V8's here are Ford or Holden. P5NIS isn't subtle and as it winter here it would be too cold and hard to find. The DRAC1 is hard, I just can't decide if I want that out there.

Thanks for all the comments keep them coming.

I agree. I wouldn't want my name/nickname/initials on a number plate personally. Also, to most people Bond drives an Aston Martin and they really don't know the exact model. No one ever says "Bond drives a DBS" or "Bond drives a Vanquish". But everyone knows he drives an Aston Martin.

The SPY/MI6 ones are cringe worthy but I think 007 AML is quite cool as a bit of fun if everyone knows you are doing it tongue-in-cheek for the kids! AML V is completely safe though.

EDIT - No, I am wrong. Just been outside and looked at my DB9 and have to say I would feel like a complete cock with a number plate that included 007 on it rolleyes

Let the car speak for itself and get AML V - it's a great plate!

I'm not a massive fan of bespoke plates that spell out 5O MACHO, B1G B0Y or 2FAST4U but don't mind the more subtle ones or older styles that simply have fewer characters. I ended up taking the plate I had on my Morgan and putting it on the Aston because it is a simple 3 letters and 3 number combination that are pretty rare these days along the lines of 258 TOK.

I saw a beautiful Bentley the other day with the number plate DAR0N and did think that the average Bentley driver has changed a bit over the years.

I agree with the general consensus here drac: the AML one to impress fellow Aston fans and owners and the DRAC one to impress your friends and family.

Don't know how James Bond themed number plates are viewed over there but here in the UK probably not the type of attention you're looking for... biggrin

When I met my wife to be on holiday my best efforts at making a good impression were somewhat thwarted by my friends telling her that I drove a red Porsche ( which was true) with the number plate So Cool which was not true. This was nearly the end of the start of something. In fact it was not the end. It was not the beginning of the end. It was the end of the beginning.

Drac, it's always nice to seek a little reassurance in decision making, but the reality is you'll never please this bunch. There are the Bond hater, bling haters, misspelling haters and the hate anything you do haters.

I'd just do it and enjoy. It's your car, you've no doubt worked very hard to get it and should be able to stick whatever plate you would like on it.

Ignore the bullies on here...... wavey
