Mrs aaz01 is pregnant and doesn't feel comfortable flying, which is fair enough. So we're looking for a week somewhere in the UK.

We prefer independence, don't need any entertainment provided for us. Just somewhere to get away from stressful jobs and house renovations for a week. Our favourite holidays were renting villas somewhere hot with private pools.

Budget - as low as possible, really. After having to convert bits of the house to be suitable for a baby, there's not much left, so we need to keep costs down.

I've never had a UK holiday before so have no clue what's available or possible! Ideally within one day's drive from Glasgow - although I think that includes the whole of the UK if I drive fast enough.

Suggestions?

Lots of self-catering places available in the Lake District - easy reach from Glasgow and a beautiful place to relax.

Lovely holiday cottage in Yorkshire. Perfect for a couple, probably could, with a travel cot, also accommodate a very young 'un.

I'm not the owner, but I've stayed there many times. http://www.westburncottage.co.uk/Westburn_Cottage/

Won't cost you too much to get there. Not too expensive for a week away. The area is lovely. There's a pub within walking distance, and just a little further away a fine village with a waterfall.

I'd echo the self catering idea, we've stayed in them from the south coast to the Lake District. This one, in Yorkshire, was one of the most enjoyable: https://www.theholidaycottages.co.uk/north-yorkshi...

Self catering somewhere in Northumberland.

East & North of Alnwick if you like beaches, Kielder water national park if you like countryside.
