Just when you thought the NUS with its new anti-Semitic Isis-condoning president couldnt get any further beyond parody:

I await a sudden change of heart should something horrific ever be committed against them or their families

It's a daily mail article. It's designed to inflame.

The point of the NUS agenda is to move the debate on, highlighting the problems with the prison system. They don't mean literally close all prisons tomorrow an let the inmates loose.

I would like to ask her what she thinks the appropriate punishment for a rapist should be.

Threatening to deploy direct action? Will that take the form of a new hashtag or liking a facebook post?

"'the racists in Parliament wrecking black lives with impunity'.

Black activists are not the sharpest tools in the box when it comes to irony.

"The vote called for anyone detained under the Mental Health Act to be hand over to NHS care"

If only. I'd much rather be 'policing' rather than spending 12 hours sitting with a Sec 136 because there are zero mental health beds in the country.

A country with no prisons? We'd all have to sleep with one eye on the phone every night...

With a close family member working in mental health it seems the proportion of people with issues of one sort or another is such that I reckon half the population of the UK could be employed in mental health.

Thinking out of the box and might well work.

My attitude to crime is do what works. Am not overly opposed to hanging, flogging, shooting and, (showing my age here, Willy Whitelaw's short sharp shock but, at the same time, if hug a hoody, letting offenders and conjugal visits reduce re-offending rates and work out more cost effective then I'd be just as happy to go down that route.

A number of universities have voted to unaffiliate themselves from the NUS recently. Their days are numbered.

I'll take direct action over this one!
