An Immigrants Guide to Brtain
Discussion
This is good. So many accurate things, especially Henning with his real meanings behind words in conversation The state of that Fray Bentos
The guy at the beginning was pretty much a real life Alf Garnett once he started on his diatribe. Also, it was amusing, but also quite tragic, that the 2 women didn't see how their friends emigrating to live in the Costa Del Benidorm makes them an immigrant & a foreigner in that respective country.

I liked it when he did the sketch about spending his benefits in one day and ending up p*ssed on cheap cider, putting the empty bottle on his head, and crying out "Rooooneee!"
Also the sketch about faith, the latter being the bookies. All his weekly pay packet on a horse that loses, and he says, "I'll get it back next week....."
That's the British male through and through.

He was on the One Show a few weeks ago, partly plugging this. He said he didn't originally want to do the show because he didn't see himself as an immigrant coming here from Germany. An immigrant is usually getting away from an extreme situation like war, he was working in Germany, got on a plane, got off at Luton airport and started working over here. The other reason was that when immigrants leave their country, they go to somewhere better...

I was told that he's actually from London and that's a fake accent, not sure it's if it's true but I think it makes his act ten times funnier if it is
Unfortunately that's wrong....He came to the UK to work in marketing for Wycombe Wanderers! That's comedy gold in itself! :bingybongy said:
Most amusing.
Henning Wehn(sp)? Standup is very funny.
Not seen that, will look it out. He is very good on HIGNFY and 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. His bit about English words which don't match what they sound like was very funny. Like Haberdashery is just junk. Sounds like it should be "I am just going to the Haberdashery to pick up some heavy plant"Henning Wehn(sp)? Standup is very funny.

Never heard of this guy before or this series until I saw this thread. Glad I did. Very amusing
The British tend to be self-depracatory. I think that's why we like him so much. He takes the mickey and we don't mind it, especially with his heavily-accented English. The fact that he's our traditional "enemy" German makes it even funnier.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
