Guys,

I'm running Microsoft Outlook with Windows 7 Pro.

When Outlook checks for new emails, the screen freezes for about 10 seconds and then goes white, then after another few seconds returns to normal.

This only ever seems to happen when it checks for emails, anyone got an idea how to resolve this?

Thanks

All patched up to date? Which version of Outlook?

Where is it getting your email from?

Outlook 2007 might not be supported.

Used to get this when the Exchange servers weren't hugely happy about the traffic, so it might be that your mail server is not 100% happy, as above.

Patching is applying Windows Updates, including checking the box for update other Microsoft products. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/instal... Give that a go, see what happens after everything is up to date.

I'm going to guess it's some sort of add-in that's looking at incoming mail - do you have anti-virus installed?

Yes, running Mcafee virus software, funnily when a virus scan is running the email basically grinds to a halt. Should i change virus software?

As it sounds like your PC is quite old it's likely that the antivirus software has updated itself to the latest version which is designed to run on higher spec computers, which is quite possibly causing the problem. Microsoft offers its own AV software (Microsoft Security Essentials) which is free, and much lighter weight in comparison. In five or six years of using it I've never had a problem.

Pc is only 2 years old, so not severely out of date.

But will look at another virus software.

Thanks!
