Just because your shoes were expensive doesnt make them nice.
Much like a Rolex then..? Your clothes are ill fitting and your shoes look like they were purchased from a fancy dress shop.
Please crack on looking through my profile.
You brought price into the equation not me.
I'm not sure why you are suggesting anybody would use cost as a barometer of quality (or being "nice") in the first instance.
I often browse the watch threads but don't feel that either of mine are deserving of their own thread...

No sorry, you did that when you mentioned the price.
You posted a picture of yourself open for ridicule. You got ridiculed.
Feel free to ridicule my thread or don't bring it up in the first place.
The price was not mentioned until I was asked to post a link. I did not volunteer the information, unlike yourself. You posted a picture of yourself open for ridicule. You got ridiculed.

I am not in the habit of ridiculing people.
Right then.
As my first pic went down so well and others have kindly contributed their photos here is another outfit which I have worn many times and is a staple of my "going out attire".
Criticisms I can make myself.
1. Self tied bow tie (can't be bothered to learn how to tie it myself and even if I could I wouldn't get it as perfect as the self-tied ones).
2. I am wearing a belt which is incorrect with a dinner jacket but as I have no braces or trousers without belt loops I stick with the belt (black of course) for now.
3. Should be wearing a dress watch but couldn't be bothered to wind it up.
The above outfit is worn with grey trousers to tone the whole look down and some shoes which I bought from a fancy dress shop.

When you say "Going out"... Friday night at the local wine bar?
Meal, theatre, cocktail bars - that sort of thing.Impasse said:

Learn to tie a bow tie. This is important. What is more important is knowing that it isn't supposed to be a perfect knot and in the strict rules for wearing a dinner jacket it is one area where you can show a modicum of individuality and imperfection - up to a point, obviously.gizlaroc said:
Also, self tied means, well, you have tied it yourself.

ust confess I was about to click "ignore thread". A little banter is fun but a load of sheep slavishly repeating the original quip is just tedious. Can't imagine many more people will post snaps if the hords simply join the usual Pistonheads ritual stoning of the lamb after someone else has thrown the first stone.
Thank you Rich, it's nice to know I'm not a lone voice, and you're right regarding people posting up pictures now, as most people will think F that.Fwiw, I didn't love Romeogolf's work outfit, but think his casual wear was spot on.
Ooooh I'm sooo gay for saying that, blah blah blah :-/
I suspect you have simply said what many were thinking.
Glad you did.
The poor man has done nothing to deserve it that I can see.

The inevitable banter will of course arise (and should be encouraged) but if we could please refrain from personal insults that would be much appreciated.
Of course a lot of posters make pretty much the same level of comment on all threads and are generally to be ignored but when some of the insults are personal it can be difficult to ignore them. What I do find funny though is that often those same people get quite irate if they are criticized in any way. 13m said:
Got to love the Ritz. They have a dress code and they mean it.
I was there not so long ago when a Russian tried to come into breakfast wearing tracksuit and trainers. They refused him entry and when he protested they allowed him entry but made him sit behind a curtain.

An iron curtain?

Inductionroar... What are normal clothes for you?
Normal would be an open collared shirt, jumper, smart trousers and shoes. Obviously a large part of that is dependant on the season but typically that is what I wear more than anything. The outfits I have posted are far from my everyday attire and are very much for going out. Of course it makes a big difference as to where you are going and how the people you are with are dressed too.
Did you have any luck with your morning suit?

and some silver jewellery (wrists). Some sort of silver necklace too. Holding a smart brolly.
And it all sounded fine until ^^^ I hate to see otherwise well-dressed men brandishing a golfing or telescopic umbrella - even worse is when the canopy is emblazoned with the insignia of a hotel chain or car dealership.

I don't know enough about it to answer that, but the boots above are not of high quality
I'm not knocking them, they're (hopefully) good vfm and so long as he likes them they're spot on.
The better Northampton makers are leagues ahead, but you have to pay for it.
Similar shoe from C&J:
and not so similar from Cheaney:
A glance shows the difference in quality but I'd guess they're at least £200 more.
IIRC the boots in question were four figures, so more than double C&J. I'm not knocking them, they're (hopefully) good vfm and so long as he likes them they're spot on.

They are Zonkey Boot Jodhpurs and other than the stitching of the uppers are entirely handmade which, in my opinion elevates them well above "the better Northampton makers" (which incidentally C&J nor Cheaney are) who only produce GYW shoes outside of bespoke and operate more of a production line than a workshop.
Neither the C&Js nor Cheaney's above feature closed channel stitching or a bevelled waist so I would certainly not rate the level of finishing as higher on those. The lack of finished edges on the Zonkeys is their preference for the jodhpur style and not a cost saving measure, although it clearly does have that effect - after all if they are taking the time to hand last and welt their shoes then a few minutes polishing the edges of a strap is certainly not an oversight.

Pastel pink or salmon shirt, linen if you can find one, dark blue loafers, no socks. Get those trousers shortened to ankle. Like a boss.technodup said:
Just as well I can think and dress for myself then. It was the shoes I was debating. The trousers are happening.
I think a light coloured suede. The style of shoe would be less important than the material on this occasion as suede dresses down any shoe.As it is likely to be hot maybe a suede loafer?

A question for shirt people:
As an avid gym enthusiast, who has somehow managed to refrain from posting all about it on every single internet site ever, I have developed an awkward bodyshape when it comes to shirts. I like a well fitted shirt, so does anyone have any recommendations on where to find such a thing for one of those nauses that eats beef jerky and drinks diet coke in the pub?
I'm also rather tall.
And hate ironing.

There are a few MTM companies where you send your measurements, your order is made up in Vietnam (or wherever) and three weeks later you receive your shirts at (seemingly) a very reasonable price. I have no experience of these companies but it seems both a better and cheaper idea than altering existing garments.
