Horses for courses and all that, but I tried a few Olymp level 5 body fit shirts based on recommendations here - I really don't think the quality's there, especially at the price.
I'm very happy with ctshirts 'business casual extra slim'.
You got me going there, until I remembered I'm a fat bd...wobble

Thought this would be the best place to ask without setting up another thread..

I'm getting married in just over 6 weeks time, and typically have only just started thinking about an outfit for the reception

I'd like to wear a midnight blue velvet dinner jacket, but am unsure where I'd be best off looking for something of a decent quality and well tailored to my shape

Does anyone know where I should start my search? There seems to be so many tailors around I'd prefer to work off a recommendation.

My budget is around £1k for the entire outfit including shoes, shirt etc. I'm based in London

Thanks in advance

With six weeks to go it's somewhat unlikely that you've enough time to get something made or made to measure, so you might not need a tailor. Buying off the peg and getting it altered slightly to fit nicely (sleeve length, etc.) would be safer with your timescales. No idea what shape you are (broad, slim, a little rotund?) but if you must have midnight blue velvet then you were probably thinking of something like this?

It's not a dinner jacket in style, but is otherwise about what you're after - I'm sure something similar can be had for a more reasonable price, mind you! If you're after midnight blue and something for the evening, have you considered buying a dark blue dinner suit?

If you had more time, King and Allen do bespoke and made to measure. They might even be able to do you a made to measure within the next six weeks if you're happy to pay a premium for fast turn around.

They get good reviews, but can't comment myself - have got a "bespoke" suit from them coming, but the first fitting isn't for another couple of weeks so I can't say if they live up to the reviews or not!

That Selfridges jacket looks about 6" too short for the bloke modeling it! Looks like a school kid at the end of the year when he needs a bigger school blazer laugh

Agreed and we wonder why people don't know how to make sure that clothes look right.

Thanks for the reply

I had thought that I may have left it too late to get something truly bespoke, and am definitely open to buying off the rack and having it tailored. My problem is that my shoulders and chest are somewhat broad but waist is slim, so I tend to find things that fit my upper body are slightly loose around the stomach/waist area

Something like this caught the eye - https://www.hackett.com/gb/men/clothing/formalwear...

If anyone has any recommendations of where I could potentially get this altered, it would be much appreciated! (42 reg is usually about right for me on the chest and for length so i think this could be a good starting point)

I quite like Hackett stuff, but I have to buy a 42" jacket and have it tailored down.

As to where to have it altered, have you considered taking a trip to Hackett and getting them to alter it? Failing that, just Google tailor + nameoflocaltown and you'll find someone.

You could try this: http://www.brooktaverner.co.uk/jackets/evening-jac...

You'll be able to find a 50% or 55% off voucher with a quick Google.

I recently bought a suit from them - Jacket and two pairs of trousers for ca. £240!. The quality and fabric (100% Merino wool) seemed great, but the jacket (in the same "Tailored Fit") didn't fit me well because it was cut too big in the chest - might be perfect for you...

Emmett shirts. Any experiences?

RRP £125. Shops in King's Road and Jermyn Street. Stocked in Selfridges.

A few currently on TK Maxx for £40.

Worth a punt?

This may be an oxymoron, but smart baseball caps? Any suggestions?

I like wearing caps, and I have quite a collection of them, but haven't really worn them much in the last few years as I have a lack of 'smarter' looking ones.

I want something that looks vaguely respectable. The sort of thing you would wear whilst driving a classic convertible sports car without looking like too much of a yob.

I've looked at offerings from Ralph Lauren and Huge Boss etc, and they are either surprisingly chav looking or would make me look like I had strayed from the local golf course.

Any ideas?

I have a similar Boss cap ... dark grey wool, black adjustment strap, black embroidery, it's the closest I could get to non-chavvy
