For me, skills are always more important that items.

Not entirely sure how to put this question, but basically, what skills have you learned for the sole purpose of prepping?

Would a bog standard soldier do the same stress training as marines?

They do there escape and evasion on dartmoor then get rounded up and taken in for interrogation after having no sleep , not sure if the same would apply to all though.

For someone who wants to live free of the rest of the world you don't seem to have got the hang of it yet.

Is "stress training" having your wife shout at you while you have a damp flannel over your face?

And all so you don't tell them where you keep your tampons when the SHTF. hehe

Ooh, get you!

I've reworded it to be closer to reality:

Paintball
Wiping things with an oily rag
Walking in the right direction
Plasters
Boiling water
Cooking
Drying things out
Know my arse from elbow
Driving without crashing
Using eyes
Glasweigan kiss
Teamwork
Putting bigger plasters on
Using a lighter
Wiping own arse
Bent paperclip and a elastic band
Can sharpen a knife
Moustraps
Planting things and watching them grow
Can build wardrobes
Can turn things off and on again
Can do at least 6 press ups
Leg it when bigger boys come
Can pitch a tent
Can eat salad
Puts dock leaves on a nettle sting
Can fix a lawnmower
Am not bankrupt
No payday loan
Can make own moonshine
Can open a tin can.
Can catch spiders
Know how to tune a radio
Fishing
Not stressed
Not a retard
Not a criminal

Although I think a few of them are dubious. Teamwork, for example. Your entire plan seems to be stockpile food and shoot / skin / wear anyone that knocks on the door to borrow a cup of rice. I'm not sure that's evidence of being a team player - although I do admit you were very generaous giving that lady all the lotion from your basket.

I think the real point is, is when does it go from just being 'sensible' to prepping.
Maybe when you have more than 500,000 rounds of 22LR ammo?

Have you any idea how many 22LR rounds you have to put into a Zombie to stop the fker?

You mean someone will pay me to shoot zombies? Sounds a damn sight more fulfilling than quantity surveying.

About half way between Glasgow and Edinburgh, not too far away from the motorway.
We spent 3 days last week going around villages in fife, falkirk, clackmannanshire and west lothian so probably not very far from you!

drawn to places like Kinross, Burntisland, Dollar, Tilicoultry, Dunfirmeline and Linlithgow so far, but not sure if we can afford the type of property in this region with the kind of land/remoteness I would like with <350k

also will have to see how a yorkshire accent holds up in scotland!

Interesting.

I can imagine it's much easier to practice these kind of skills in the US vs the UK, given you can hunt, and have the opportunity to head into the wilderness.
For the majority of the UK, there would not realistically be the possibility of running off to the wild come Z day, so staying put would be it. Therefore I imagine having a house that is secure yet self-contained would be the goal.

Thinking about it, this woul probably make your prepping much easier than having to worry about bug out kits, cabins in the woods to keep supplied/powered, extraction vehicles (I'm sure thats a real thing, sounds like it is) weapons etc.

So maybe move back to Lancashire and save a load of time smile
