Great work on the Eden Perfumes Aventus equivalent! I've just ordered the 30ml bottle for £18 on the site. Will give it a go, as I've wanted it for a while.
Let us know how the "faux" stuff rates against the Aventus. clap
I think I read somewhere (possibly on basenotes forum) that one of the reasons Aventus is so expensive is due to the fact it has ambergris in it.
Quick google does confirm it's a very expensive substance.
I'd also be interested to hear how it compares against the real stuff.

I have a few on rotation, prada amber intense, bulgari aqua and man, Jimmy choo and a d&g one I've forgotten the name of.

A 3 month old daughter means I never go anywhere that I would usually make an effort for.

Eye opener for sure.

I tried the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille again yesterday and I think I might be coming round to it.
I tried to persevere with this but found it horribly sickly sweet.
I've found it very sweet initially but it seems to settle down after a while.
yes

When you first put it on in the morning it feels like having being doused with vanilla extract. Too strong, too sweet. My wife was not impressed! Does settle as it dries but that first half an hour is on balance too sickly for me (especially given the high price).

If you like the Tobacco Vanille but want something less sweet (and expensive), might I suggest Herod by Parfums de Marly or Chergui by Serge Lutens.

They're a bit mainstream, I know, but I alternate between Armani Code Ice and Code Profumo, dependant on mood and possible location.

I like a spicy scent - can't really get on with any of the sweeter, musky stuff.

I don't have any of the real stuff, but my eden faux version arrived today.

The verdict is it smells ok but its very weak. I put some on an hour ago, and my wife didn't notice I was wearing any aftershave. She could only smell it very close up once I told her.

Given that its not actually that cheap, its disapointing.

Good to hear the feedback; seems there's a reason why expensive EdP are expensive...

The smell has totally gone now.

They have loads off positive feedback on their website, I've no idea why.

Men's fragrances seem to have changed a lot in recent years, which is a welcome relief to any woman running the gauntlet of Bank station on a 1990s Friday morning, peering through a fog of curry farts and Issey Miyake For Men.

I hate that stuff. It smells of 'mould' crossed with 'toilet cleaner'.

I like dry, spicy smells. A great favourite in our household is Serge Lutens' 'Santal Majuscule'. We both wear it though it smells better on him than it does on me. The git.
Ordered some of this from Scent Samples to try and it's VERY floral. Not for me - have given it to one of the girls at work.

My missus got me a snide Creed Green Irish Tweed from some fake perfume place in Camden - I had to bin it, it smelled rank compared to the real one.

Agree entirely.

Smells good, but disappeared super quick, and wasn't exactly 'cheap'.

I'll just use it liberally if I'm nipping out etc, and save the best stuff.

All Amouage is 15% off on Scent Samples at the moment, so I am going to try a few. I like the sound (potential smell?) of Ciel - do any posters have any other suggestions?

My other half invested in a 50ml bottle of Tom Ford Ombre Leather for Valentines for me. Luckily, the garage card and flowers were still available so I could return the good deed. biggrin

I know the place you mean.

It's got loads of big clear glass bottles on shelves that have 'smells like Creed Irish Tweed', 'smells like Boss Orange' etc written on them.

I had a sniff of the 'smells like Creed Aventus' one as I have it, and I wasn't impressed... it wasn't much of a copy.

Having said that, I'm getting a bit bored of my regulars (Aventus and Penhaligons Endymion) even though I like them, so I've ordered samples of Acqua Di Parma Colonia, Acqua Di Parma Merto de Panaroa and Creed Neroli Sauvage.

Let's see if I can find a new winner.

Does aftershave help to fk the bhes? I'm prepared to pull the proverbial trigger on some samples if so; really go to town like.

Just tried a new one from the local farm shop. The smell is rather unusual.

Well, it helps if you can't dazzle them with your wit. You should try some - buy in bulk. wink

As a long time fan of Ultraviolet and Sausage I thought I'd try something new. Having read the reviews of Creed Aventus on here I thought I'd give it a go from scent samplles.

Love it. Just smells clean and fresh, one of the nicest whiffs I've ever sniffed. Got some of their spice and wood at the same time but Aventus has the edge for me.

Converted.

I remember when I first discovered hermessence at Harrods more than ten years ago. It was pricey in those days. £80 for 100ml. Today it is £175. Silly money. In those days there were limited bottles that would cost that sort of price. Today it seems you need to spend £150+ to get a decent fragrance.

In answer the OP, I've just finished a bottle of Amouage Epic. Liked that a lot. Currently working my way through some terre d'hermes. I'm thinking of something oud next. Not sure which
