Hi All

I am considering buying the XF 3.0d from around 2009/2010

Just wondering what kind of mileage I should be looking at. Have heard if its too low then there may be issues on the horizon.

I was thinking of a £10K spend so likely to be around 65K miles

Anything else I should look out for? Should I be afraid of buying private?

3.0 d comes in two engine variants. 240 & 275. Then there's the trim options, Luxury; Premium Luxury; Portfolio. The higher the trim spec, the more toys you get as standard. The lower mileage ones may have suffered from dpf regen issues, but other than that shouldn't be a cause for concern. The facelift saw the 8sp gearbox, which is a peach. But whatever one you get, it'll be head and shoulder above the stuff from Germany of similar spec. If you get big wheels, check they're not buckled, and above all, get the best one you can afford.

It's smooth and sounds good for a diesel, but it not fast. Depends on how cheap it is!

I'm on my second XF after replacing my 2010 portfolio S earlier this year with an XFR.

The 3.0 diesel is very reliable if well maintained so I wouldn't worry too much about high mileage but think there is a major belt service at 100k miles.

Issues I encountered were they seem to have an appetite for rear brakes but cheap enough to sort out. The rear bootlid can suffer corrosion around the chrome trim so check this area. It's a known issue and jag will sort under warranty although for something coming on 7 years old if it hasn't already been sorted then unlikely to be covered under warranty.

Must have options imo are the rear parking camera, jag sport interior and xenon headlights.

Hi

I have had 2 x 2.7 S Types, and now have a 3.0 XF.

3.0 much quicker, I personally prefer the sound of the 2.7, sounds 'more refined' if that's the right description?

MPG, the S Types I got 37 / 38 average which is bang on what they quote, the XF I can only achieve similar, although they say it should do over 40 mpg.

Has a few issues with the S Types over the years including DPF but nothing that stopped me getting another Jag

The XF is on a 11 plate, 34K when purchased, now at 50K, no issues, a great car.

I have had a 2012 3 ltr XF for just under two years now.
25k miles when I purchased it with one previous owner now 32k.
I agree about the rear brakes but hey - it's usually the fronts so it's a cheaper "option".
I love the car and eight speed is great.
I get between 43 and 54 mpg mixed cycle.
On the way back from Cornwall last week I averaged 55 mpg at legal M way speeds.
I am toying with the idea of getting an XJ at the moment as I am so impressed with the car.
I too have had BM's and Merc's - much prefer the Jag tbh.

That is great to hear MPG wise I had allways thought/read they were thirsty compared to my F30 30d which on a London to Newcastle and back late at night showed start to finish 52,8 on the OBC, I wonder what the difference is MPG wise between the two 3 ltr engines the XF has, the more powerful is an S is that right? Cheers

I'm not sure whether it is the car or my driving but I don't get anywhere near that! I have an S. On a recent 1500 mile journey which was mostly motorway/DC I got 34mpg average. My OBC usually sits around the 30mpg mark.

The S & non-S are the same mpg ( unless you rag it). I've had low 50s out of mine, but that's cruise stuck on 72 for 200 miles. Overall I get high 30s. The 8 speed box helps over the 6 speed too.
