How does a God-fearing Christian sleep at night having spent £100,000 on a car, when a malaria net is £2.50 and saves lives?

Aren't they honestly worried about justifying decisions like that to St Peter?
Odd question. confused

I'm not remotely religious but even I can see that the two aren't mutually exclusive - owning a £100,000 doesn't stop you buying malaria nets.

What would jesus drive?

A £100k car or a £500 car and give the rest to the poor?

That's enough to make anyone turn to religion.

Don't know if he had a car but he worked in the industry. He was a car painter.

He was known to be from a line of enthusiasts though. David's Triumph could be heard throughout the land, and God drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden in a Fury.

It seems his love of cars was infectious because the apostles were all in one Accord.

He can't be all knowing and all powerful. I mean, if he changes his mind he can't be all knowing and if he can't change his mind then he can't be all powerful

DELETED: Comment made by a member who's account has been deleted.
I wouldn't justify it, I would acknowledge that I hadn't kept that part...

If you want to see a sinner look at the nearest Christian etc.

I don't have tattoos however it's not my place to judge anyone who has, that's the Lord's job.

I especially like that part of Christianity, it teaches me that no matter what I may think of something, I have no right to judge only God does.

Certainly we have a 'code' to live by which we call the law and consequences when people break this, however it goes deeper than that for me. What right do I have to claim I'm superior than anyone else, none.

The wonderful thing for me, is that by understanding this, you realise that any system based on merit is ultimately doomed to fail as someone will always be better than you.

For a Christian we acknowledge this weakness in our desire to eat shellfish and have tattoos and judge people - it's called sin and it keeps us from God.

Jesus died to pay for that - that's why we like.

God knew his people where not perfect and could never be, for as you rightly claim, we keep messing it all up.

Therefore Jesus is our bridge to him.

I believe in Jesus, I'm not religious.

I'd urge anyone to read "The Shack". I really made me think about Gods will and the right to judge anyone.
I'm not saying it's right but it did have quite an effect on how I thought about why God allows bad things to happen.

Nanook - see below

When you say you believe in Jesus, what do you mean?

I believe he is the son of God and died for my sins

You believe he's the son of God? Or that he was a person that existed?

Both

I can't see how you can believe he was the son of God, yet not be religious? Perhaps you don't practice much, but that's not the same thing as not being religious. You believe what the religion tells you, it's only Christianity, as far as I know, that tells us Jesus is the son of God, so if you believe that, surely you must be religious?

In that, I believe and practice in a church setting once per week, however I do not agree with many of the 'religious' additions. I do not judge anyone for example homosexuals as other so called Christians do, I do not claim to be right and others wrong, I do not believe everything with blind faith, but rather I ask myself challenging questions and do my own research and form a judgment based on that.

And the bible tells you to do things, but it's ok, you only have to do some of the things, because Jesus died, so you can get away with doing anything you want. Well, not anything, some of the things are too bad. And you get to arbitrarily decide which ones are which.

Jesus told me to believe in God and treat my neighbor as myself, these are the only two commandments etc. I believe in these and try and base my beliefs around that message.

It just seems so illogical.

It does often

And the singing, I hate the singing, with all the money churches collect every Sunday, you'd think they could hire some decent songwriters!

Some songs drive me crackers, I petition those running the various services (C of E and others) to sing some classics!!!

Do people with tattoos get into heaven? What about those that eat shellfish, or eye up their neighbours wife?

If they believe in Jesus yes.

What about murderers and rapists?

I love this one and discuss this often, for me the answer is yes, if they believe in Jesus.

So picture this, Myra Hindley turns to Christ and she's in, however she's in heaven surrounded by people who love her including the ones she killed.

She knows all the pain and suffering she caused, isn't condemned, is loved, but realises fully what she has done. She accepts responsibility for it and is forgiven, but it's never excused or forgotten.

To me this makes more sense than she's burning away somewhere, as if that was the case, where is the resolution for Keith Bennet et al???

Equally I'm more than willing to see the view point that both her and Keith are dust in the wind...I just think there's more.

Any use???

1) we know god (the christian one) is a woman

2) women do not need a reason to change their mind

Oh, and the Shellfish thing? It's to do with the old covenant and the new covenant, explained far better than I can here.

Half the Apostles were fishermen so I'm sure they said something along these lines - "Look, Jesus, this restriction on eating shellfish is a bit stupid. Any chance you can drop it in the new set of rules?".
