Have had my e92 M3 from new in Oct 07 and have now covered over 100k miles in it. I just love this car and still amazed by sound and performance of the V8 each and every day. I loved my E46 M3 from before but in my opinion this is a better car. Longest I have had a car as I cannot bring myself to move it on as I love the V8. Each to their own!

Cool, but if you don't mind me asking, why is it better than a E46 M3?

Well done! Would be interesting to have the full ownership report. Any mechanical problems? Considering getting rod bearings replaced?

winksmile

I loved my E46 M3 too, but an E90 M3 is on my list of potential next cars mainly because of that engine. cool

Cheers,

Main items/issues have been: throttle actuators both banks; new set of rear springs (one sheared, replaced both as precautionary); replace corroded steering pump hose (was leaking); new battery; new power cable at fuse box (posted elsewhere, cable very tight between battery at rear and fuse box at front, commonish problem lose ALL power). Other odds and sods but these are general upkeep.

Others might have been luckier and unluckier. But the engine is just amazing from my point of view as I just love hitting the 8k+ rpm, whilst others will moan about low torque.

Over the E46? Engine and overall better build quality (again might be car specific).

Out of interest, what do you think you've spent on it on servicing and faults since you got it (almost 10 years)?

I know it's an expensive car to own, petrol, insurance and vehicle tax you can cost but the servicing and fixes I don't understand yet.
I get mines in 11 days and so many hours now, not that I'm counting.

Difficult to say. Assuming out of any warranty and taking into account big hits like actuators, and my early on high annual mileage so inspection 2 came up more regularly, say £700 a year excluding insurance, tax and mot? But I use an indie whose labour is £50 per another against stealers £110. Exhaust is on last legs and OEM is £2k new replacement but will be going for £1k non-OEM. But then insurance for 2 cars for me including M3 and Tvr is only £480 so a lot in the mix.

That is very low insurance. I've only had my UK license for 3 years now so I was quoted £1,233 for a 2010 M5. Which I don't think is too bad for full comp. My first car which was a Rover 25 was £1,460 at 30 years old. Well done hitting over 100k miles and still loving it. Amazing cars.

As a long term owner I'm interested to hear about the spec on your car and what you think is nice to have vs must have's i.e. do you have EDC, and is it necessary (many cars don't have it)?

Thanks

Insurance - 10k miles on M and 5k on tivver garaged, over 12 yrs NCD on both and wife named driver. Use Admiral mutli policy.

Spec - like it simple, all frills doesn't float my boat but all entitled to their opinion. No bluetooth, manual (friggin love it, both 46 and 92), no heated seats, uprated stereo but not full on (why unless you spend a great deal time in the car?), basic 18" wheels as that was what the car was developed on (19" for show and tramline more), but has EDC. Not used unless M button pressed so is only for a bit of fun unless you track but deemed a must for potential future buyers. But then again why do people choose some houses and others don't it is all down to personal choices.

Many thanks for the response. Agree re manual, but have to say having test driven a DCT it really suits the engine. Assume the argument re wheels is similar to the E46, shame 19's looks so good on the E92!

Well done on reaching the 100k milestone in your car from new!

I've had mine 7 years from new (Manual E90 LCI car) but have only covered 53k in it. I can definitely see me keeping it until reaching the same milestone as you, though. I have nearly reached it in another car (90k miles after 10 years.)

Keep enjoying it. It's rare to hear about a car on 18"s. I had the same dilemma but went 19"s with EDC this time, my E46 M3 was on 18"s and agree that it rode and handled better than an E46 on 19"s. With the E90/E92 I could only test-drive cars on 19"s and felt that they rode really well with EDC. I think my E90 understeers more than my old E46 did but it rides better, is faster everywhere and is considerably nicer as an all-rounder.

As another long-term owner, mine has heated seats, bluetooth and the Logic 7 stereo but I didn't buy it as a sportscar. It's really grown on me during the time I've had it, but that might be because I'm treating it more as a fast, fun, luxurious saloon. I properly enjoy it but I drive it smoothly and deliberately rather than furiously on the nose. It's too heavy for that.

Here's to plenty more smiles!
