Plenty of old tech in one pic.

And until Lucasfilm release the original films in unedited, unscrewed around with form, I believe that laserdisc is still the only way you can get the original trilogy in its original form in decent quality.

All the DVD/bluray variants have been messed around somewhat. They aren't what was originally shown on the big screen.

(have a mate who probably still has a couple of LD players)

I was wondering recently if these still work. Do you still have to call an operator to dictate the message?

The shape of that mouse hehe Surely it would have been obvious even back then that corners and edges don't fit well in the hand.

Still got this complete in its box, with all manuals, and extra such as the 512k flash card, modem, orange phone data connection etc.

Still works fine too, the Wood Effect Limited Editon was cool back in 1993 too!

I reckon £450 in old money from 1993 must be equivalent to about £750 in today's terms, I must have been mad!

Surprised no-one's posted one of these yet...unless of course I missed it. I suspect it might even still work...

My dad still has one of those which still works, but it must be older than that version as it has wood effect casing and 6 metal toggle switches on the top.

I used to have a beautiful Nokia 8800, I sold it on ebay a few years back, but I regret it, I've been meaning to buy another one but they still fetch quite strong money for something I'd never *actually* use

(pic from my eBay listing)

Does anyone else really miss mobile phones from about 10 years ago?

I mean, I love the functionality of modern smartphones, but my last 4/5 phones have just been variations of the same black screen.

We used to have beautiful things that flipped, slid and twisted. Better days hehe

I really regret selling them all now, would love to still have them all for the sake of the few pence I probably got for them

Dragged this out a few months ago, surprised it still worked, even handles a few basic web pages

I still think they're very good looking things

If I was a more practical man, I'd love to rip the innards out of the case and stick in a modern custom PC.

I've still got an old g3 imac in the garage too, this I actually bought a few years ago on eBay for 99p, not an entirely sure why I did, but it just seemed very cheap for the kit hehe

not so much as hidden away in a drawer, but this is an amazing bit of engineering sitting on a shelf in my office...

Curta calculator by jon bawden, on Flickr

it's a mechanical work of art, and the story of how it was developed is pretty amazing too..

Love the look of those, went to an small apple museum last summer, and they were asking for any G3/G4 powermacs for sale, to turn the sidepanels into clocks nono felt like heresy from a place dedicated to preserving and displaying this old stuff (granted, they didnt do that with the older machines, but still)

And the G5 Powermac still radiates power to me, must be my age showing..

If you like the G5 aesthetic, google "raijintek metis", its a very nice mITX enclosure, to tiny for your high end gaming rig, but can still pack a serious punch with an i7, 16gb and a midrange GPU in there.

Hi there! Yes, you still get to speak to really helpful human to leave the required message. Beats vMail down pat.

I can't read the message now without specs on though and the battery life is rubbish 3 months max :-)

the calling party pays system is dead but the lease/ contract pagers are still alive and well because of the nature of their system meaning coverage is very good ( in part due to the frequencies used for widearea paging)

on site paging is still common as well ( as bleeps are pennies to replace vs hundreds for 'roaming' VoIP handsets)

Found my first memory stick the other day, think it must be from 2003/04 cost me about £30 at the time IIRC.

Next to the one that's cost me a bit less, 1000x it's size

eta: Sorry for the enormous image

My company still answer and send the messages couldn't tell you whom the supplier is though (company issued ultra high-tech)

Nice... I was a big fan of this machine and used it extensively at the time. I created a quite a complex spreadsheet on it for a media company - people used to be a little bit amazed at what I could work out on it.

That reminds me of my old G5. It sadly expired (well, the computer didn't but the screen did) after I ended a furious phone call by hurling my phone (at the time, one of the Sony Erricssons featured above) at my desk in frustration. I then watched in slomo horror as it bounced off the desktop and smashed the display panel, cracking it vertically. It flickered once and then the lights went out, never to come on again.

I haven't the heart to throw out the tower so use it as a doorstop in my studio.
