Honestly I'm not even sure what I need to look for, or exactly the bike I need.
But I realised that it's probably a hybrid bicycle that I'm after ( where it have the flat handlebars like a regular bicycle, but still has the speed of a road bike, but.. has maybe a bit wider tyres so you can take it off the tarmac as well and that it's more stable as well, but not super wide as for mountain bike as I still want low rolling resistance).

I would rather probably buy a higher-end used bicycle than a brand new cheaper one as I would want to keep it for at least the next 10years + I want a reliable thing as well not something that is made out of butter as I don't want to buy cheap and buy twice.

I don't really care about the styling too much nor that it isn't the latest brand new model, as long as it's not bright pink with flowers it will be good for me.
However speed/reliability/ease of use/ comfort is a huge priority for me!

Thanks smile

Pinnacle neon or lithium, you could get new at that sort of budget. Great bikes, woefully under valued.

had a look at the pinnacle range, and.. not really sure how I feel about them, I see you can get used one for around £100 which is cool..but.. from the images it looked kinda not the best quality? I mean it probably is decent if you say so but is it really the best that I can get for my £300-£400 budget?

again.. I have No problems buying Used stuff if that means I will get much better quality stuff..

Some names I found which are readily available around my budget:

boardman hybrid pro
Specialized Sirrus
Cannondale Bad Boy
Whyte portobello/cambridge

Any feedback on them?

I'm on my second Sirrus. I had a 2011 (I think) Sirrus Comp I bought second hand that got stolen, I replaced it with a 2016 Sirrus Elite Disc. Love/d them.

They do a low-end Sirrus but to be honest they seem pretty crap.

ok after spending few hours researching about these type of bikes, seems like I have 2 choices:

- Boardman Hybrid team around £200-£220 for a Mint Used one , ( this is the model above Comp, not sure what's the difference but the Team retails for quite a bit more so probably is better? , The PRO version - it probably is the best but.. its around £400 for an used one which is almost 2x more, can it be 2x better? Doubt so..)

Whyte portabello - around £230 for a mint used one ( there isn't really any of the Cambridge models available in used markets which seems to be a better bike?)

After my research people have said that the whyte portabello is a bit more lively but.. it's really harsh compared to boardman, and the boardman seems to be able to run on thicker tyres (more space for them) if I ever have the need in future?

So which one from the 2 is the better bike overall and would last me longer and give the most bang for my buck?

I don't know about the other options, but I sold my Giant Escape 1 for £300 last summer. That was an excellent bike in my view (it was a 2011 model).

I'd recommend looking for Escapes as well.

I'm no expert at all but there is no way my Specialised Sirrus Elite has the speed of a road bike, presumably due to the gearing. On the flat/downhill it's easy to feel like you need a few more gears.

That said, can't fault mine which I bought new a few years back for about £400 I think.

What about a new one instead?

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-520-flat-bar-roa...

This is probably more road-biased than something like the Sirrus but you can get 28mm tyres on them. I loved my Triban when I had it - they have a fairly enthusiastic following akin to the Dacia of bike brands.

The thing is, I would rather have an used honda than a new Dacia.
even without any knowledge at all I can tell that those 2 used models are better quality than the btwin one.

Fair enough, you're the expert wink

Though you might want to check some reviews of the 520, it's a great bike for the money.

ETA If "[you] would want to keep it for at least the next 10years" you're unlikely to get any kind of warranty with a used frame, against a lifetime warranty with Decathlon (frame, stem, handlebar and carbon fork).

I had one of the earlier ones, and only sold it this year. I enjoyed my time with it but they are quite harsh with the alloy fork, and they can't run wider tyres than the fitted 28mm ones. The reason I eventually sold it was because my hands would go numb using it on anything other than glass-smooth roads. As I'm approaching 50, I'm not getting any fitter so I've decided to step back and enjoy pootling on my hardtail instead, even though I'm massively slower than when I was on the Portobello.

The new range has a carbon fork on the Portobello, and in fact the one below it in the range, the Shoreditch. They also have a longer head tube than the original ones so you'd ride in a more comfortable upright position.

I reckon you'd not need wider tyres with a carbon fork.

I agree with this list. I've toyed with getting all of these at various times.

I like the Bad Boy model that has the rubber suspension thingy in the fork/headset. If not get one of the others with a carbon fork. Takes a lot of the fizz out.

boardman hybrid pro
Specialized Sirrus
Cannondale Bad Boy
Whyte portobello/cambridge

FWIW I bought my OH a Jamis Allgro Elite a couple of years ago which is a great bike but rare so probably not worth pursuing when there are stack of the others to go after - esp the Boardmans and Spesh's.
