Just wondering what people think about the merits of a used CLS vs a used S-Class. There's a big difference in cost whe you're looking at 2010-2013 models of these cars.

Is the S-Class worth the premium or is the CLS good enough for short and long journeys? I've been in an S-Class a few times and can see why it's been consistently voted the world's best luxury car. However, I don't know much about the CLS.

Two completely different vehicles.

I own an E class and an S class. They're just far too different.

Lets do this another way, what do you want from the car?

Not really that much difference....(used to have a new CLS), but the headroom in the CLS could be a problem for very tall people in the back.

Supreme comfort and waftability- a magic carpet ride. Reliability and good overtaking ability are also important.

I'm really trying to understand the market the CLS is aimed at to see if it would be suitable as my next car as its a hell of a lot cheaper than a used S.

I have a 2015 CLS shooting brake. I'd say the difference would be noticed most by passengers in the back as headroom is tight to give the swoopy lines. To drive it's comfortable and wafts well (70mph <1,500rpm) but maybe not quite to S class levels.

Only the S class will do this with it's excellent double glazing.

Maybe the CLS will get you 70% there with Airmatic.

IMO I would say the S-Class is worth the extra and has the heritage lineage that the CLS hasn't - it also has more equipment and more room. The CLS on the other hand is certainly more interesting to look at.

Neither is a bad car or choice!

CLS is the E-class in a posh frock
CL is the S-class in a posh frock.

If you want S-class ride quality but a coupe body, go for the CL.
If you want a pretty E-class, go for the CLS.

Alternatively buy their ugly sisters and save a wodge of cash.
