Well done! I don't think the gear will stay that new and shiny for long.

By the way, what's your team's take on PLB's? I do a fair amount of remote solo walking in bits of Wales where there's little or no mobile signal, so now have one stashed in my 'emergency' stuffsack just in case...
Theres pros and cons between PLB and spot/delorme trackers. For me personally if I was going out I'd favour a spot messenger that way family or friends can see where I am at any time and you can send a distress message that the post is verified. With a PLB when activated it generally needs 2 satellite passes to be considered resolved so no SAR action will happen for 1-2 hours potentially.

I'm in Cheshire SAR. A bit different to MR as we are Lowland Rescue but work closely with MR on joint ops. Absolutely love it. Can't get enough!

I carry both, a bit of redundancy, delorme inreach has the advantage of being two way, and offering non emergency comms "I'm benighted but happily set up, see you tomorrow" rather than just the big red button. PLB has better standby battery life.

Cheers chaps.

PLBs. Not something I've looked into much and not actually an issue for the team per se as we are engaged by the Police, so any emergency notification would have to ultimately be directed through them to us.

We use spot trackers within the team but that's as much for search management as to wondering where the team is. I think they have a refresh rate of 3 minutes. I'll check. I do know they have panic buttons on them which no one has ever pressed by mistake whistle ( not me...)

If only everyone was like you, there would be a lot of quick rescues and more people walking off the hillside than there is currently. I'm amazed how many solo walkers go out without even a route plan left in the car window or with family.

Agree with quick rescues, but it was suggested PLBs/Trackers (like mobiles before them) would make folk less likely to self-rescue. Haven't heard of many stupid callouts with PLBs though.

Route plan in the car window is bit of an invitation to theft/vandalism, but I suppose useful if nobody's going to raise the alarm for you. Not leaving routeplan with family/friend is dumb. Closest I've got to doing that was calling Mrs SB to tell her where I was going after an hours walking uphill. No signal in the valley frown

How's it going OP?

Was minded of this thread after reading this article from a few years ago - https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=15... - while looking at the Welsh 3000s routes.

I still keep an eye on this thread as there is some great work going on! I didn't pass the application phase due to my lack of experiece, however since applying I'm in a new role at work with less time to spare. I will look forward to the updates on here smile

Just found this thread through the "Ask me anything". MR, I take my hat off to you and your colleagues. I'm not far at all from the other end of the beacons/black mountains, and hope I never have to call on your services...
