I'd make for the continent. Better weather somewhere in Southern France, maybe the foothills of the Alps up behind Nice where I lived as a kid. I'm really bad at being on my own in a build up area, but give me somewhere like that where I can walk and mountain bike in paradise, and I'd be much more serene.

Ideally, I'd find an old mill, or at least a house next to a fast flowing river. Then I'd find some books to teach myself how to generate power from a water wheel, so I could have decent entertainment in the evenings.

Getting there wouldn't be too tricky. Drive down to Port Solent, grab a decent-sized motorboat, and off we go. Another thing I'd have to learn early on, I suppose, is how to get into petrol storage tanks at petrol stations, assuming the pumps are no longer powered up.

Above all, though, most importantly, just in case, on a million to one shot I wasn't alone, I'd definitely go to sleep each night with one eye on the phone....

I'd spend most of my life driving stuff, cars, bikes, trucks, diggers, trains, ships etc.

Petrol loses it's flashpoint after a while and goes "off" rendering it useless....not so sure about diesel.

It's a lot longer than you think, and the way it's stored can affect that. In tanks under petrol stations, it should be good for a decade or so.

But there will come a time when you'll have to do without, so you need to explore the world straightaway to find somewhere you can settle, while you can.

I'd rob a bank so that I had enough cash to buy anything that I wanted.

Power disappears? No worries - be somewhere with lots of sunshine, Solar Panels and a Tesla wall Pack.

Get a generator.

Petrol Station reservoirs and fuel storages as well as all the cars just laying around.

It'd be years before the dark ages kick in.

Yeah no one would be around but keep reading, honing hobbies and making stuff and you'd live a happy simple life.

Careful!

Do it at night when it's quieter.

I'm picturing that place in the film, Oblivion, but sadly without the woman....

I's make my way to Rome and go through the Vatican archives. Whilst I'm an atheist, I'd love to see what the religion is based upon.

Going by the premise that the power/utilities network would fail within days through no manpower to maintain it, I’d use the remaining time I had with power to save all my cherished picture/video data to a laptop and various hard drives to take with me at all times, charge up as many various batteries for stuff as I could, and download as many survival guidebooks as I could find to help me with hunting/building/powering. Then I’d raid any tech shops I found along my route for any Solar Power chargers/lighting devices.

I’d head to the nearest outdoor supplies place to get supplied up with an emergency survival kit (camping cookers, tents, food pouches etc etc) then head to my nearest military base to get kitted out with weapons other survival items like food rations. With the power being off, fridges and freezer food will spoil quickly. Have a play around on site with tanks, ‘copters, planes etc and familiarise myself with the weapons before moving on probably in one of their personnel carrier vehicles, either tracked types or just tooled up Landys/trucks able to survive impacts/off road excursions should conventional routes be blocked. It’d need to be big enough to carry my supplies I gather up along the way.

Somewhere along the lines I’d have found a siphoning device to scavenge fuel from abandoned cars to allow me to continue on my journey to a supermarket to fill the vehicle with enough tinned supplies to see me through should I decide to set up camp somewhere for any amount of time.

My main motivation to begin with would be travelling the country to see anything and everything that has ever interested me. Head to the motor museum to sit in and drive cars like a 60’s GT40. Go to air museums to sit in and maybe power up a spitfire/concorde etc.
Somewhere along the way I’d have stopped at supercar makers/dealers and driven their cars.

Once I’d survived long enough and seen everything I’d wanted too I’d head to the coast and familiarise myself with getting a boat to take me over the channel. Probably by this point I’d ditch the survival vehicle. Unless there’s an option to drive it down and through the Channel Tunnel? If not then a boat and as much as I could manage to carry will be used to get over to Europe.

The same routine would follow once landed in France. Explore as much of the world as I could with the intentions of making it over to the furthest land point of the East. Before crossing the sea to the Americas. On landing the intention then is making my way to silicon valley where all the cool future tech is housed. And scavenge anything of use there. Pretty sure solar cars are in development. So when the fuel runs out or goes off, I still have the means to travel long (ish) distances without risking it on foot.

Travel the Americas seeing the sights etc etc, before returning to somewhere in the US to live out my days farming and reminiscing over the photos/videos I’ve taken over my travels and treasuring the memories the photos and videos of my family bring back. If there’s one country in the world full of foods with preservatives long enough to last millennia, America is that place!

The final home will be somewhere that can be fortified from the feral animals that will no doubt reign the world after a few years. High walls with one way in and out, and hunting towers at each corner to allow easy hunting for meat.

I don’t get on with big groups of people so getting to see the world without a world full of people will be great.

TL;DR – Get tooled up to survive, see the world before settling at a farmable location to see out the loneliness that is my remaining days.

PH Mode – Do boring stuff, drive some fancy cars while fuel lasts, trying not to die in the process. Die old and alone.

Have I done this right, or have I gone too deep?

Sounds to me like you've panicked a bit early
There will be plenty of food and energy and shops and tech whilst you travel in luxury...
I'd be leaving England pretty quickly really...
The roads suck and the petrol is too expensive hehe

Probably carry my wallet everywhere like it meant anything.

Also are the people gone (ala the rapture) or dead? i'd probably have to spend some time clearing the corpses.

Also what about the animals? are they still here? is Whipsnade Zoo now a free for all battleground?

As much as i'd enjoy causing some chaos such as going around setting off every speed camera i can find, donuts outside police stations, setting fire to my office etc i'd miss the o/h too much to forge a long term plan. Plus it's not like i can repopulate the planet is it...
