Hello,

A family member has asked for help identifying this random item. My best guess is that it's some form of tea strainer, but haven't seen this type of design before... anyone know what it is?

Late Victorian Spider catcher. Probably made by Messers Grimston and Sons, Berwick upon Tyne. Worth 17 pounds or 3 Euros.

It's definitely a medieval tool for replacing the burner cap of a gas cooker, that will only ever fall off when it has reach a temp of 200c, maybe.

Is it a very rare early prototype home speculum? It would have been a bit obstructive in use, so would have been rapidly superceded.
