Landsail LS588 tyres...anyone have any feedback?
Discussion
I've been looking for some decent 305/40/22 tyres for my Merc GL420, and came across these:

Normally I'd avoid anything from a relatively unknown brand like Landsail, but on paper they seem to be by far the best tyre available in this fitment! All season, 71db, B wet weather rating.
Does anyone have any experience with these? I can't find any other tyres that come close at any price.

I had a pair of 17" Landsails fitted on the front wheels of my old Volvo S60 by the Saab garage and was pleasantly surprised by their performance.
In fact, I liked them much so that I bought another pair when the rear tyres needed replaced.
Couldn't tell you the model number for the tyres, though, I'm afraid, but have other tyres by the same maker again.

Trouble is, Landsail aren't really a 'maker' - they're a random brand applied to any number of randomly selected tyres from a random Chinese factory. In fact, I liked them much so that I bought another pair when the rear tyres needed replaced.

So you never really know what you're going to get.
That said, I put a pair of cheap tyres (can't even recall the name) on the front of my Boxster as I realised 1 day before a track day that I'd worn the shoulders on the existing pair and they wouldn't last another day. They were absolutely fine on a dry Castle Combe circuit.
I haven't tried them but they seem to have done very well in various group tests, typically performing somewhere around the mid-range tyres from the top manufacturers or top tyres from mid-range manufacturers.
Unfortunately I suspect you'll get a great deal of brand snobbery and not very much actual experience on here.

Pretty sure that the performance ratings are under a self-cert system by the manufacturers are they not?
Therefore I would treat any good ratings for a cheap ste brand like Landsail with a huge degree of caution.
If that is true then it throws my whole shortlisting process out of the window Therefore I would treat any good ratings for a cheap ste brand like Landsail with a huge degree of caution.
There are very few cars running on 22" wheels it seems, so it's hard to find relevant reviews. The characteristics of a 19" tyre can be quite different to a 22" - especially in noise, which is one of my top priorities (aside from grip obviously).

that's my understanding. Therefore I would treat any good ratings for a cheap ste brand like Landsail with a huge degree of caution.
OP, Landsail may or may not turn out to be alright tyres, but don't kid yourself that they're 'the best available in this fitment' because of the EU label.

Just looked at the link - Nankangs are cheaper and Nexens are only a tenner more.http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110...

At the budget end of the market, I have no issue with either brand and would trust them a lot more than I'd trust Landsail.

The Nankangs do seem like a possible alternative, and I have heard of them before which is a bonus (although I thought that they too were Chinese?) At the budget end of the market, I have no issue with either brand and would trust them a lot more than I'd trust Landsail.
I'm not even really looking for budget tyres, just the best without paying solely for the name - and something quiet.
For reference the car currently has these pieces of poo on there:

Previous owner fitted them and I want them off ASAP.

^ this. Not all these tyres are bad, by any stretch of the imagination. My mate deals in tyres and people keep comi9ng back for more Landsail, 3A, Joyroad etc. I needed tyres in a hurry and went for some Landsail on a spare set of wheels I rotate between cars when there's need for them - and was pleasantly surprised by comfort, noise and grip levels. No hairy moments in the wet. Although, if I thought I was going to be encountering more challenging driving conditions such as slick roads from weeks of baking sun followed by a swift shower, such as you find in Sounthern France - when the roads are in that condition it's as bad as driving on ice - I would look for something more like my current favourite Uniroyal Rainsport 3.
