How on earth has she managed to keep a job which affords her a 6 figure salary Tonker? Surely this attitude must reflect in everything she does?

A lot of my mates are getting married and I cannot get my head round it.

Speaking to them it's purely the female that wants the big day and big ring the guys couldn't give a st - does no one look at the big picture?

Couple of mates are getting married next year. Both have the same sentiment. Infact, some of them clearly resent the amount they have to save to pay for it (without saying it) which could be used for a car, holiday, reduce the mortgage, whatever.

This is probably a foreign concept to many PHers but maybe they actually love their soon to be wife and want to make them happy. I know that sounds wacky on a forum where most would rather keep their partner in a vivarium but some of us actually like them.

Sold. If Tonker can get me £150k, i'll pay your wages myself...!
Don't need coffees or brews. Maybe just some 'putting the world to rights' discussions.

My wife wanted a wedding larger than I preferred, however the day is about her and it made her happy so it was no problem. Likewise when I want to but some carbon unobtainium widget she doesn't understand but is cool with it.
Life is much better if you accept and enjoy differences wink

They love their wife but wish their soon to be wifes would be happy getting married on a beach somewhere instead of forking out 20-30k to pay for few hundred people to eat lots and get drunk.

The more guests, the more people there to admire her.

And the more people to be impressed at how bad her friends the bridesmaids look in the ghastly dresses she has chosen for them.

This its a massive willy waving contest but for women look how much money ive spent etc etc. My mates getting married next year to his long term girlfriend cost easy 20k+ 85 people attending costing for the reception £92 each and that's just the start of it. The best thing he always popping down my unit on a weekend to get away from her due to x,y.z, Both got good paying jobs for the area hes on 35k and shes on 25k plus overtime but he said too me the cost of the wedding could have paid his mortgage off at the age of 24.
Its one thing I will never accept is to get married I rather be on my own and single over married then divorced and then screwed over.

Yes but he thinks that divorce will never happen to him...nobody does when they're planning to marry 'the love of their life'

Step daughter has booked hers for 2018, but if you book it out of season its cheaper and don't have it on a Saturday its cheaper.

I sat there in shock when she went for both, literally halfing the cost in one hit.

Now the only worry is how many are goin to turn up with having to use holiday days up to come.

You see her family are from Harlow ish and his family and friends are from Stockton, for a wedding in Stafford.

Registry office and id drag 2 witnesses of the street and get them a drink.

Our local lets you have the function room for nothing, invites who you want job jobbed.

My wife and I are separating after 14 years.

I had a great wedding day and have two great kids and lots of good memories. The last year has been st and no doubt next year will be a bit tough but I wouldn't have not got married.

I doubt I'll do it again though.

They are more interested in the 'here and now' - the sex, the 'fun', the high-life etc etc.

The 'big picture' only tends to come into view after a few years - when it's far too late and you're well and truly stuffed.

I think some women, particularly those who want to continue with what most would regard as "high flying" jobs, probably shouldn't have children.

I see this with one of my daughters - she's got a very demanding senior management job that involves working with kids. There's a little bit of travelling but the big problem is her hours can be erratic and often with no notice. Her husband has a job that he can't just pack up and go home if needed. My wife is their safety net - without her they just couldn't function as they are now.

She could try an au pair. I have inherited 2 special needs kids, but have to travel for work at least a couple of weeks a year. I think there are always ways and means. I've even flown my father in law over to England to help me top up the registered child care a few times.
