As in they don't depilate - there was an article recently on British Cycling's "incremental improvements" regime, and allowing the hair to grow reduces saddle rash, with some official from British Cycling saying it was one of the more awkward coaching staff/athlete conversations.

Mind you, that doesn't prove that Trott and James follow the advice or edict (not sure which it was offhand).

Not sure if true, but I'm pretty sure Joanna Rowsell-Shand doesn't.

in the very first episode of Star Trek the captain (before Kirk took over) was Captain Pike. In the next generation we had the french named Captain Jean Luc Picard -Picard means "Pike carrier".
Gene Roddenberry's wife was in the original series, played Troi's mum in TNG and was also the goice of the Enterprise computer. She later appeared in Babylon 5, too.

Meanwhile, the amazing Andreas Katsulas who did an awesome job playing G'Kar- a nationalist-turned-Mandella like character in B5- played a pretty evil Romulan commander in TNG.

There's quite a lot of crossover in SF actors actually.

The first man to officially die on the Hoover Dam project was J.G. Tierney who drowned in the Colorado river whilst undertaking a survey for the dam in 1922.

The last official death was Patrick Tierney, the son of J.G. Tierney who died on the same day in 1935 after falling from one of the intake towers.

In track cycling, GB physio Phil Burt and team doctor Richard Freeman realised saddle sores were keeping some female riders out of training.

Their response? First to bring together a panel of experts - friction specialist, reconstructive surgeons, a consultant in vulval health - and then to ban the waxing and shaving of pubic hair. In the six months before Rio not a single rider complained of saddle sores.
Sadly the only proof I'll ever get.

In Frasier...

Jane Leeves who played Daphne Moon is from East Grinstead and was taught to talk with a Manchester accent by John Mahoney who played Martin Crane, who did actually come from Manchester (via Blackpool).

Hedy Lamarr in addition to being a rather good looking and talented actress was also (partly) responsible for inventing (among other things) a radio frequency hoping torpedo - the technology from which forms part of the basis of blue-tooth

So a fairly useless weapon that rather than relying on science, just hopes it'll hit the target, Lamarr can keep it! (sounds all a bit Douglas Adams!)

A hollowed-out jalapeno pepper has the same texture as the inside of a vagina. I'm yet to meet a man who confirms this.

The USS William Porter was known as the unluckiest ship to set sail. In only three years of active service, it not only damaged its sister ship pulling out of port when it was new, but then proceeded to drop a depth charge into the water with the president in the area, then on another occasion accidentally launch a torpedo at the president's ship, then fire a shell at the commander's house (which exploded in his flower garden), before shooting up another sister ship before being blown up by a kamikaze plane that had already sunk.
