My council have announced they're going to start charging a yearly fee to take away your garden waste, alot of people not happy about it on facebook. Cheeky s also mulch it all up and use it to feed the council plants, and will sell it back to you for a couple of quid a bag to feed your own garden.

Needless to say where I lived with my ex tried it, so few people actually paid the fee they had to revert back to the old system and refunded everyone their money.

Our council started doing this a couple of years ago, they call it a 'Garden Club' to which you can pay to be a member.

They will, however replace lost/damaged bins for free - at least they did a couple of years back when one of mine split.

Horsham been doing this for a few years now.

I just put my grass cuttings in the normal bin now and chuck my normal rubbish on top. Since I have no need/desire to store all my grass cuttings in my garden elsewhere.

Though I'm keen to know what would happen if I did put a full bin at the kerbside of garden waste, without the special sticker I'm meant to display to show I'm a member. But I can't be bothered.

However - the wife and I definitely fill the recycling bin up more than the normal bin - which must be a good thing.

You could have done it properly, like I did with these:

Someone stole one of our two green bins and dumped it in an alley way up the road, some old todger goodie two shoes reported it to the council and they took it away. It even had our bloody house number on it.

Mine will just be going into my general waste bin when I move into my own house. All those years ago we only used to have one (non-wheely bin) and that used to get everything including grass cuttings. I don't know what justification they could give to exclude you from putting them in the regular bin, although I do imagine there will be some petiness from the council about it.

Thankfully I don't seem to have had any problems with it at all. I don't believe the bin lorry driver and his mate are too bothered. Tabloid stories of "Bin Nazis" don't appear to affect our little town. Apart from in the "odd neighbours" category of course.
