So... I work in IT, and our receptionist is always playing jokes on me when she passes my desk. Anyway, long story short, she is moving into a new job within the same company, and for her last week, I shall treat her to some PC weirdness!

I am after some inspiration though!

The tricks have to be possible remotely - she uses a laptop which is locked away on a night, so unless I can do it remotely, she will know it is being done.

Thought of a few things, sticking things in the startup folder, remotely shutting down or executing tasks, that sort of thing. But I'm sure a few on here can come up with some amusing things to do, so over to you!

I've used these before but not tried them remotely, might need some remote registry tweaks to get them to show or a small batch script to run at certain times.

They even change and BSOD smile

Some good ideas in the IT geek version of PH

They have quite a few threads on it and a search function that actually works!

Is there a modern day version of Netsend? smile

Used to enjoy pinging random screen messages to people in the offices 20 years ago with the old Netware software. Nothing serious, just a randomly delivered message suddenly popping up on a person's screen like - "You are being monitored".

Would freak some out good and proper! smile

Just subtly controlling her mouse or keyboard every now and then so she "accidentally" clicks the wrong thing or over-types stuff.

If you can change her wallpaper, change it to an image of her desktop and remove most of the icons.

I wrote something years ago to listen for messages from a program on my PC and fiddle with their audio settings. Turn the volume up or down, stop or start playback, pop the CD tray in or out. Installed it on the other machines in the department.

Annoying smartass asshole!

Not her you need to worry about.

Companies tend to be particularly humourless when dealing with abuse of IT systems.

Doesn't group policy let you send commands to a specifc computer? Been a while since I played around with that so I can't remember much about it

shutdown -s -f -m \\HerComputer -t 60 -c "Hope you had your work saved!"

If you're feeling generous, then 59 seconds later

shutdown -a -m \\HerComputer

Don't do this, it's not funny and some people, even the ones you think might take it as a joke, often won't.

It's also not good for your career unless it's a small company and you're very friendly with the owner/HR director.

It's also not funny.

CTRL + AlT + down left or right arrow turns the screen upside down or 90 degrees to the left or right. Up will return it normally.

Have to do this on the actual PC so if she ever leaves her desk and doesn't lock it do it then.

Does that still work? I used to do it to one of my less technologically gifted colleagues sometimes when we were out on audits together.

We made our own entertainment in those days.
