Gents,

Trying to help my brother out, he's in a graduate job at the moment and the money is quite poor so he only has £3,000.

He has a grande punto and his main priority is a nicer place to sit.

Main criteria;

Nice place to sit
Cheap to run / repair
Under 70k
Body style, any.
MPG not a big concern as he does low mileage, but I think tax would be.

So far I have thought of;
Alfa 156 / 147
Mr2 (post 2002)
325 compact
Lexus (?) although i do not think he is the Ls400 barging type.

If the Grande Punto is reliable then stick with it and keep the £3000, especially as you say money is tight.

Punto is dying, MOT will be more than the car is worth.

Thanks for the list, I forgot about the GT!

Will send him the list

Is £3k not entering Alfa Mito territory? Might be worth looking at them you might get a bargain.

Accord. In EX spec it's got leather, cruise, air con, Bluetooth etc. The seats are some of the best I've personally sat in. Only Volvo to edge them maybe.

330 costs approximately zero more to run in every respect.

Oh ditto this. I have a pal who isnt massively into his cars but bought one of these (the newer Sii one in 2.0 4 banger which is the sweet engine imo, there V6 is pretty st). Its an absolute lovely place to be, really well kitted out too. I think he spent about £2500 on a 58 plate.

I had a shot of it well I was 'helping' him service it. It drives OK, not as well as it looks but about the same as any other vaguely well set up 'normal' hatch, headroom isnt the best,especially in the back but if that isnt an issue for him they are a good shout.

I also recently picked up myself a 207 GTI for £2300. Now they are pretty rare and tend to sell for a lot more but a well kitted out pug in GT (2.0HDi or 1.6T flavour) actually has a really nice interior. Mine is a 57 and has auto lights, folding mirrors, auto wipers, cruise control bloody everything.

Edit: Wow just noticed Z10R also linked a 407GT coupe. 207 is nice but its not matching that, thats a great buy. smile

If he starts looking at Alfas stick to a twin spark for that money. Do not buy a JTS- great when they run right but injector issues are common and expensive- I speak from experience!

Great feeling in an Alfa though, which you won't get in many other cars for that money in my opinion- but I am biased!

As for the mito, I have to say they are a bit too feminine for my taste. I'd rather have a more recent Punto.
