Hi after getting persuaded by my daughter to turn vegan I reluctantly watched a couple of videos and I was shocked as how cruel the dairy and meat industries are, now I am not preaching here but from a man who loves his meat like I love my MEAT from 4 egg omelet plus sausages bacon etc. breakfast plus a whole chicken or a couple of tins of tuna for lunch and dinner well enough said.
I am just starting on this journey and it will be a tricky one . we are told from a very young age that meat and dairy are good for a healthy life but we are not built to eat or consume animal products. here is informative videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es6U00LMmC4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-XP79o8gqQ
they are sad to watch but very inspiring and informative.
But the main point here is to meet and discuss vegetarianism and vegan-ism with like minded folk are you out there?

We're omnivores, just look at your teeth...

Our eyes too. They face forward like most carnivores so we can judge distances better when hunting prey. Prey animals have eyes on the sides of their heads for better visibility of what might be creeping up on them. We're omnivores, just look at your teeth...
Having said that, I think that vegetarianism/veganism is something to aspire to for ethical reasons.

Reminds me of the song, "The Reluctant Cannibal". Flanders and Swann said:
But people have always eaten people,
What else is there to eat?
If the Juju had meant us not to eat people,
He wouldn't have made us of meat!

I gurantee no one here would eat meat regularly if they had to kill it themselves
This is very true. The industry is all very sanitised when people interact with it at the supermarket. I have never understood why we call it pork and beef rather than pig and cow. That just further divorces it from what it actually is. If you eat meat (and I do) in my opinion then you should be willing to try all meats... Rabbit, Dog, Cat whateverI did the meat and dairy free thing for the first half of the year. I did it from a health perspective, certainly not from a moral standpoint. I'm back on meat, although much less and ideally organic, and am still not drinking dairy milk, rather using coconut or almond alternatives.
It requires a thick skin if you're going to announce it to the world. But everyone will be grateful if you don't keep mentioning it and not describing yourself as a vegan.

So why eat meat when you know you wouldn't if the process wasn't sanitised via a supermarket?
A pack of 3 chicken breasts = at least 2 chickens killed.
How many animals were killed for your last BBQ?
Because society has moved on from the hunter gatherer and someone else does the dirty work for me. However, I do believe that if an animal is killed you should eat as much of it as you can not take the breasts and dump the rest. I am quite happy to eat chickens feet, liver etc. There is no need to put the guilt trip on me. I lived with a serious vegetarian for many years which is where my comments listed above stem from. A pack of 3 chicken breasts = at least 2 chickens killed.

I am very aware of what I am eating and I try, where possible, to eat meat reared in the best way possible as i disagree with business practices that produce £1.99 chickens at a profit etc

This! We are not built to consume meat was that what he actually said? Pretty sure the teeth in my head are built for it and my ancestors ate a lot more meat than I did.
OP good luck with it if you want to give it a go but your going to need supplements because we're not built to live on plants.

You're right because it's too much effort. I also wouldn't drive if I had to build a car myself. Or be online if I had to build a computer up from components.Phil. said:

No, I eat meat because it tastes nice.
Honesty at last. But is it the meat you are tasting? Many people flavour their meats with the likes of herbs, spices, tomato sauce, mint sauce, mustard, chilli sauce, BBQ sauce, even Bisto gravy. All made from vegetables.
My meat has very little flavouring added. I also like the texture.

The farmers who tended the cattle used Anglo Saxon, and the nobles who ate it used the French words.
Cheers, I didn't know that.Beouf = Beef . Cow for the poor saxon farmer
Porc = Pork . Pig for the farmer
Venaison = Venison . Deer probably for the saxon poaching it
Mouton = Mutton. Sheep
Chicken - don't know why no difference there (time to google ), although poultry is from pouletrie

Been a veggie for 32 years. Couldn't be vegan, I just don't eat enough of the stuff that makes up a vegan diet, without dairy I would have stopped bothering years ago.
Budweiser used to contain renet but it doesn't now.
I've been strict veggie for most of my life but if beer ever gets ruled out then frankly I'll lapse. I've deliberately avoided contributing to unnecessary cruelty in all that time but you stop me drinking beer and I might as well top meself. Not not much point in having a principle that stops you living, that's reserved for the religious idiots.
I agree live is for living but animals have that right to Budweiser used to contain renet but it doesn't now.

I get it. You want to eat meat because you don't have to kill it and it tastes nice. You are happy to ignore all the facts associated with animal welfare and poor human health, never mind the negative impact of the animal industry on global resources. You are in the majority. Enjoy. My meat has very little flavouring added. I also like the texture.
I'm more interested in avoiding bowel and prostate cancer, heart disease and living a more authentic lifestyle for longer. Each to their own.
