Strange as it may seem. We hear your work colleagues say exactly the same thing! I was always optimistic, Bomma, but I try not to jinx things by sounding too optimistic too early on in proceedings. (Like a twit I forgot to mention this to Coop when his niece banged her head.) In 1971, as a callow yoof, I was front set passenger in a Ford Anglia driven by my mate Pete with our mate Tim sitting behind me. Tim was bigger than me, the seats didn't lock and seatbelts were a rarity. Even if they'd been fitted we probably wouldn't have been wearing them. It was so late Saturday night it was really Sunday morning. Next thing, I was waking up in hospital. That was a surprise. When a nurse walked past I asked, "What happened last night?" She said, "Last night?" "Yes, why am I here?" "That wasn't last night. That was Saturday. Today's Thursday."
Apparently, I'd banged head badly as Tim vaulted over me as my seat tipped forward but I hadn't lost consciousness in the head-on crash with the Cortina GT coming the other way. (Six lads altogether, three in each car, six lots of serious injuries but no fatalities.) In the hospital from Sunday early morning to Wednesday night, I had been talking normally but was very repetitive. The other five lads were in another ward. I was on my own with mostly older men as I had a ruptured kidney as well. That marvellous machine that is the human body got me through. Full recovery. Amazing.
Yes, I know I have an exaggerated interest in trivia but other than that I am fairly normal.
Yes, all right, these things are relative.
Sake.
