If you're sure - well that's news to me well done Dicky. I know Austin were the first to do 5 speed gearboxes as standard but we can now add the disc brakes to the spearhead of their technology that made Britain at the forefront before going bust.
Yes, the whole range was fitted with discs. Apparently Alec Issigonis was opposed to the use of them, he thought they were 'a bit of a design fad' but the management went ahead and fitted them anyway.

Can I take this nerd hat off now? Apart from looking ridiculous, it's bloody uncomfortable too...

That's a relief about the brakes. I'm glad I didn't imagine it. Uncle Jack wasn't the chap to upgrade a car. It drove nicely and felt a lot more modern than contemporary Anglias and whatnot. It only caught me out once and that was on the first long drive. I had been lulled into a false sense of security. I came steaming off the M25 on to the M3 as normal when I suddenly realised I was on full alert with white knuckles and heart pounding using every ounce of ability and experience in my meagre arsenal to keep the car on the road. At home I checked. It was on cross plies.

The 5 speed box wasn't their finest hour, it could often revert to a 4 speed & in some cases 3!

I had a 1.8 Marina that had a dashboard better suited to LHD, the radio pointed at the passenger so as the driver you sort of guessed what station you listened to!

I remember the old Marinas, my uncle Vic had a 1.8TC coupe. When he took me fishing, I operated the radio whilst he was trying to keep the old crate pointing roughly forwards.

Happy days. Oh, and:

Happy days indeed, unlike last night!

Did that fking Pelican escape? I ask this because the alarm on the scaffolding surrounding the school behind Jim AK Acres sounded about 5 times last night & im sure I saw an orange & white object hiding at the bottom of my garden!

Sorry going into bh mode again frown

I feel fking depressed. Between a car repair and an insurance bill i didnt see coming im broke again for another 4 weeks. I've got enough to eat etc.. but investments in the house will be pretty much zero... which makes me feel like im going to be stuck in limbo like i am now forever... And i cant bring myself to spend any money on anything fun.

And im feeling rather antsy about the bank/mortgage stuff as well..

Penrose was at home last night Jim, he's been doing some welding in the garage.

Oh dear chap. Not to worry too much though, there was a time you thought you might have lost the house altogether?

Just a bit of a temporary setback chap.

The Mrs popped to the cash point at the weekend and was just about to put her card in when out popped a fairly nice wedge of cash from the slot. Being the upstanding citizens we are, we just waited and after a minute or so it went back in. The receipt that followed let us know that it was £200. I'm sure there was an elderly person there as we approached but being in a busy town they didn't hang around and I could say what they looked like anyway. Hopefully the money is credited back to them sharpish, it must be a terrible feeling a few minutes later when they go for the cash and realise it's not there.

I forgot to go back and get the £200 out. Could you send it on please.

He was definitely in the garage chap, he's been fashioning himself a set of nunchucks.

Maybe it was one of these you saw?

Apparently the buggers are rife in parts of the UK at the moment.
