With deliveries to UK shores of these little beauties just around the corner, I figured it was time to kick off a thread for PHers to show off their shiny shinies in all their mid-engined F4T half-fat glory.

To whet your appetites, ladies and gents, and by way of getting the festivities underway, behold some wonderful press pictures posted up from a review in GT Spirit taken in Malmo.

Naughty boy!

Anyone got any 718/981 side by sides, just out of interest?

agree the crease line will date the 981 quite bad, nice to see the curves back

I did said it before but still the higher black skirt (rear bumper) reminds me Focus RS, especially with that blue... Glad 991 did not go for the plastic route yet, I do not think it goes well with these cars. (Unless they have a very performative reason to be there!)

Still looks like a duck bill at the front to me, and I don't like the rear reflectors in the rear bumper. Sorry!

Your wish...
...what crease line are we talking about?

Plus... an example of "tall and narrow"...

Completely agree with you on that. For me, the rear revisions to the 718 are the greatest improvement over the predecessor. The Cayman really benefits from them, too. The strip between the lights is also similar to the revised Panamera, which I guess, may well become a design addition to future model updates.

I think it looks much better on boxster with silver colour - especially with the black soft top, but somehow with that blue on cayman, the plastic skirt becomes quite "in your face" and automatically reminds me Focus. (not that anything wrong with ford). or maybe I just hate that blue, who knows biggrin. On side view (elevation), cayman now has almost the perfect proportions though, almost like old air cooled 911's, great silhouette.

On the positive sides, I'm loving the larger air intakes, they do look now fantastic on both 718. clap

Yes, the taller and narrower 718 plastic skirt does make the rear look a little, well, tall and narrow compared to the 981's wider lower stance when viewed from the rear.

Yup, 981 and 718 very similar indeed, from side elevation. I guess I meant new air intakes, makes it for me much more distinct now, it really shows that it is a mid engine car, exposing its main function/feature to outside styling. I do love first Cayman, the back curvature is indeed very unique. I'm sure they had a big trouble of producing that part, it's a very difficult double curved metal to provide with almost seamless precision on that angle.

Speaking of air intakes, completely different subject, I wonder if porsche has any plans to introduce more dynamic parts into 718 body like 911's iconic back, Targa's top or new panamera spoiler. ?

Interesting example I've seen recently from former colleagues in Germany, have been collaborating with merc on their new IAA concept car for its dynamic parts. Some of these concepts pretty ugly or early-crude like BMW's vision, imho biggrin but it would be interesting to see more dynamic parts embedded into the car's body for specific weather or driving conditions that can allow to change its shape/form.
