Well there are some huge waves breaking over the flood gates and probably 9-10 inches of floodwater behind the dunes but it's only 15 minutes to high water so I think we will get away with flooded roads/gardens, going to be a close run thing though. It's lovely here when the sun shines #alwayslookonthebrightside
Its been 3 hours are things ok with you?

We were lucky, 30 minutes before high tide I wandered up near the flood gates and there was water pouring over them. I really did think the we were in big trouble. Older chap who's lived here for years was also there, he wasn't worried at all. It was breaking waves that were coming over, that'll cause some flooding but nothing too serious. He also said that if the wind had swung around from the east or north east it would have driven the high tide onshore and much, much higher and we would have been totally buggered (he used a stronger word). Near miss but we all have houses to sleep in.
Edit to add. Without the sea defenses that were built after the 1953 floods, people would have died here tonight (as they did then), as it is we've just got some clearing up to do.

Edit to add again.
One thing I'd like to add is a pat on the back for the people from the Environment Agency. They've been here all day from early this morning. The weather has been atrocious all day. Started with freezing temperatures, followed by heavy rain, followed by heavy snow and back to heavy rain and hail, all in icy gale force winds. The last ones left about 10 tonight, they earned their money today.

Apparently so! Her husband works as a volunteer on the inshore rescue, which is where I presume she is getting the info from.
They have a lifeboat for people on land yikes

Beautiful day today. Very cold but clear. Dusting of snow overnight. Forecast tomorrow is for rain and fog frown

(That's Halifax lurking in the bottom of the valley).

Popped up the Brecons, snow was deeper that it looks.
Got a snowball fight going but the biting wind at that level meant we were only out in it for about 45 minutes.

Found a nice pub for food then smile

No idea why two of the photos have flipped!

It works better when you can see the animation but largely looks to be turning to snow as it hits land and is tracking largely across and down

Temperature is rising as fast as the cloud is pushing in, that isn't accurate and any snow there is will be very wet and temporary, before being restricted to high ground and the extreme east of the rain extent. Might stay as snow a bit more in the SE.

ETA, actually you can see the snow is already restricted to high ground, it's +7 or 8C in the west and +2 to +5C over most the rest, only E is cold enough for snow at sea level currently.

Do we need to start sacrificing small animals to the Winter Gods for cold from the east and the snow it creates for the south and east?

I think we're past the small animals stage.

Of course the forecast might be wrong, it's always tricky judging if the Atlantic has enough oomph to push the cold out.
It was already a bit of a knife edge, they were expecting colder air to persist in the south and east for coming days.
If the cold pushes back now it could result in more snow rather than the rapid reversion to rain that was expected in most areas.
Tomorrow will tell.

We currently have a bone chilling 2.8 degrees and a light north easterly here on the Norfolk coast. (At least the sea is where it should be i.e over there not over here)

Relatively quiet week of weather coming up. High pressure lying east-West across the UK. Mostly cloudy, some rain making it to NW parts. SE coolest part of UK.

Yep, boring!

If anyone cares xmetman has a list of snow depths on his site for last week, hardly anywhere achieved an inch! Pathetic.

Raining all day today frown Couldn't help but look at it and think "if only it was colder".

Sadly my OH hates cold weather and snow and is categorically refusing to move to Scandinavia, so that's that plan out the window.
