Snowing quite heavily in Milton Keynes after practically nothing overnight.

However it doesn't seem able to settle, as it's going sideways...

Blimey, just got up to leave for next destination on my USA trip, the car is showing -10 DF, which i believe is around -24 Celsius!!

Its bloody cold, and still snow on the roads which is now ice!
Flew in to SFO yesterday from LHR. North America is currently a frozen wasteland, all the way in to Northern California

Some hopeful signs that we'll see more wintry weather. Updates when necessary!

Loafer's post is just weird...
Ha!

Sorry - I read your post saying you went to dinner in a t-shirt and presumed you were either from "up north" or abroad on holiday and checked your profile to see which!

How his son managed to crash given hardly any snow is a total mystery....
Always someone else's fault, instead of considering the possibility that his darling lad might have been driving too fast for the conditions and ttted it all by himself.

Hopefully the youngster has learnt something from it.
To be fair, this can happen. Be especially careful near county boundaries. you know, where the 'Welcome to .....' signs are. Theres sometime a 'gap of responsibility' that neither council covers....

Had it between Dorest and Wilts boundary once on the A354. Very cold weather, and black ice. Dorset based council gritted up to a specific roundabout on the A354, and Wilts based council gritted up to a roundabout on the A354. Only there was about a couple of miles gaps between these two points, so there was a short stretch where the road wasn't gritted. People travelling safely on gritted roads suddenly found the next bit of the same road was untreated and there was black ice. Numerous cars went off the road along the patch, coming from either direction. There was no warning between gritted and non gritted patches. On the same road, a safe speed of 40mph went to a very unsafe speed with no warning.

Having said that, at 4 in the morning there's virtually no traffic. Gritting has little to no affect if there's no traffic running over it, activating the process that the grit is applied for. For grit to melt ice, tyres have to run over it and crush it into the road surface.

Blue skies and sunshine (albeit effing freezing) here in west yorks.
Tiny little bit left of our less than 1/2 inch of overnight snow

It's still not the council's fault! How does he know, when he turns a corner, whether they've gritted that bit or not? He doesn't! So drive accordingly!

Never mind snow, that's been and gone....

Flooding is the new snow

https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/m...

High tide here at about 8:30pm, can't work out it it'll be as bad as 2013 or not, probably not, but never know.

I should have said it wasn't settling on the roads but it was definitely snow in the garden. It had all melted within two hours though even off the rooves.

Apparently so! Her husband works as a volunteer on the inshore rescue, which is where I presume she is getting the info from.

After the excitement of this mornings snow, I'm now waiting for the high tide at 19.31 with some interest. We live about 200 yards from the sand dunes (they do have concrete sea defenses under them), flood gates shut, some sort of emergency vehicle just reversed up the track towards the dunes. Interesting couple of hours coming up.

It's quite simple:

If you have a S-Line, AMG Line or M-Sport car on phat 19"+ wheels on summer tyres then do everyone a favour and leave them at home and get the bus. biggrin

No amount of traction control will help with your 50/50 weight distribution and your widget selling/go getting driving style...
This was the scene up north when I left the house this morning. I had the misfortune of following an A4 S-Line for a few miles that was struggling like hell. I thought about overtaking at one point but I would have looked like a right tw@ if I had come a cropper!

Well there are some huge waves breaking over the flood gates and probably 9-10 inches of floodwater behind the dunes but it's only 15 minutes to high water so I think we will get away with flooded roads/gardens, going to be a close run thing though. It's lovely here when the sun shines #alwayslookonthebrightside
