Chances of something cold and wintry are slipping away, but there is still no model agreement. While there's no agreement, it's all up for grabs!

As long as it snows in Megeve between now and 12th Jan, I really couldn't care!

Looks like there are tentative signs of a breadwon around 21 Dec, but no idea what that will bring...

Slipped away the very next model run after I jinxed it a while back!

Anecdotal I know, but once the cold floods into North America it tends to stick, and we don't tend to have cold when they do.

We are in the dip in the bulges (all highly technical!)

Indeed, when that East Coast cools down, it tends to drive the jet stream harder.

If I remember correctly though, 2010 saw both sides of the Atlantic in the freezer. I remember it for the rarity!

Yes, it was something extremely nasty with the windchill.

My personal best was -25c plus windchill taking it down to something extremely unpleasant. I endeavor not to leave the house if at all possible on those days.

People murmuring about a possible indication of something colder, not ever so for us though.

http://notrickszone.com/2016/12/10/polar-split-thr...

Not related, but a satellite just recorded -93C in the High Ridge East Antarctica, only 0.2C warmer than the Aug 2010 satellite low earth record.

The official earth surface record, by conventional thermometer, is -89.2C Vostok Antarctica July 1983.

An element of good news. High pressure appears to be the next pattern. This will be to our East or South East, leading to pleasant days and cold nights.

Now, if that HP just moved a little bit north and sat over Scandinavia in time for Xmas there'll be melt down.

OK, maybe meltdown is the completely wrong word... biggrin

Lots of snow coming at the moment. MX-5 was getting a bit closer to struggling at a few points.

That's not a forecast sadly. It's a low-chance dream frown

On a scale of 1 to 'to be expected', what is the amount of bullst in that article?

Call me pessimistic, but I tend to ignore articles with the headlines:

SNOW BOMB: Wall of SNOW to SMASH UK as deadly blizzards hit in COLDEST freeze for 53 YEARS

That is probably the most 'Daily Mail' article I've read in my life and it's not even in the Mail...
