3 degrees first thing (Lowestoft) van wouldn't start so got on my bike, was freezing!

We spent two nights in the van at the weekend in the Derbyshire Dales, the Friday was pleasant, but the temperature dropped a lot on the Saturday night and seems to have followed us back!

Really hope for a big dumping of snow this winter, kids deserve it.

4 degrees this morning in Sussex. Loads of people on my road were out scraping ice off their windscreens this morning after the overnight frost, including my wife, but my car was fine because I am seemingly the only person who recognises that by parking my car facing into the sunrise, this does a lot of the work for me and when I went out, the wipers were all that was needed to clear everything off.

1c and utterly wonderful in Cheshire, the most fantastic Autumn I remember for years, was on Anglesey for a few days, was walking up Parys mountain in a T shirt, its an old quarry, the colours in the sun were magnificent.

I know it can all change but a definite different feeling to the weather patterns this year, got so used to the murk and gloom forgot how glorious this country can be when the weather is good, being outside feels like one of those old films from the fifties and sixties where the sun is always out.

its like recompense for last winters poor showing and constant grey 5c and drizzle/rain.

4 degrees this morning as I left the house. I had to use a card to scrape the frost as I've no idea where I put the ice scraper!

As I entered the village where I work in Hants the car gave a beep and a warning of 3 degrees. It's been a nice start to the autumn so far.

4 degrees here in Herts too when I left for work, car was iced up when I first got up but had defrosted while I was getting ready.

Agree that this has really been a glorious autumn and a lovely change from endless grey!

This side of Christmas continues to look interesting - a totally different start to the season compared to most years. The polar vortex is nowhere near it's normal home and Europe/Asia continues to cool down early, while North America is much warmer than usual.

It could all mean nothing, but it's better signs than normal! My flight from Orlando to Gatwick was late in yesterday, we actually had a head wind for some of the Atlantic crossing instead of the normal jet stream pushing us along.
It's been 20c+ here in NY all week!!

I took this photo shortly before a night time bike ride - every shade of orange and red. This autumn has been stunning.

I spend some time looking at weather data (my business depends on good weather) and the last 6 weeks have been great and we hope for the current conditions to continue, in general for the next 2-3 weeks although it will slowly cool.

Longer term, personally I don't think we will see any snow before 2017, certainly not from the Atlantic. If it comes it will be from the east. SSTs are not that bad right now and its looking like they may even warm. Beyond the 8 week mark its impossible to say but my own gut feeling is for a dry ish winter with cold Jan / Feb (-5 to -10c in places) but no major snow events as it will be dry air. Total guess work though TBH.

If that does happen though I really hope for a good dry and warm spring.

If I get it right do I win a prize?

October CET ended up just 0.3C warmer than long term average making it the coldest month relative to average since April, about 55th warmest since 1659, not that you'd get that impression from the BBC weather which kept saying it was extraordinarily warm all the time!

Moscow has finally gone sub-zero with snow! Arctic plunge stopped and is still ridiculously warm (but still way below 0!) - in fact this freeze season is unprecedentedly mild in the DMI records as far as I can see, what that bodes for our winter..........?

I think we wont know much more till the last week of November as the set up at the moment is taking everything up over Iceland and it will cool things down now but we need to see what happens once it cools. I still say no snow for at least 8 weeks.

Sadly there's no door opening to extreme cold right now - Atlantic makes itself felt later in the week. However, it's still definitely not a return to full on Atlantic onslaught.

Still plenty to play for and better starting position compared to last few years.

A bit of sleet in Sheffield this morning.

Just been out to put the winters on the Audi, and fire up the Range Rover.

Here's hoping for some decent snow this year, the RR only did 31 miles last year.

I went underground years ago with the Parys Underground Group. Great fun, nipple deep in freezing contaminated water where few had walked for over 100 years. Even more bracing having to peel off on the surface on a November night to get changed.

Looks lovely to me up there Steve.

It was bitterly cold yesterday. Working on the car wasn't a nice thing, and it was even colder when I went up to Rugby! Looking to be into the negatives on Monday night, there might be the potential for some snow in certain areas.

Strange weather this weekend up in the South Pennines. Bright and clear yesterday but very windy.
Today the wind had dropped but it was dull and cold with sleet, snow and rain all day.
