How quickly do you reply to a Text message?
Discussion
Anywhere between instantly and several weeks ... I have to answer and compose many e-mails per day for work and to me, a text message almost feels like an extension of this. If I'm at home, I'll sometimes read the message and decide to reply a bit later in the evening. Also, some text messages are just not important. Why did you feel the need to tell me this?! Why now? Why not in a few hours/minutes when I see you in person? I find texting equally convenient and annoying!

This is me and it bugs me when people say "I sent you a text, have you not seen it yet?" No, I'm not glued to my phone like some people, in fact I frequently have no idea where my phone is and I don't care. I do expect an answer to my texts within 8.3 seconds though I also used to hate it when the ex would call me at work to tell me something that could wait until I got home, then when I got home "You were a bit grumpy when I called earlier, bad day?"
No, I wasn't grumpy until you called to tell me that you'd just bought some cat food when I'm bloody busy and it could wait until later, or never, never is a perfectly acceptable time scale for this information. The reality is that I replied "Yes, it was a crap day."
Round her the question should be......"How quickly do texts get to your phone?"
Too many times texts sent don't turn up until some hours/days later. It's no longer a guaranteed way of contact.
As for how long to reply, well the wife, close friends and family members usually get a response within an hour, whereas the ex and I will never respond to each other's texts, or if we do it's days later, but given the first point about texts turning up, we don't know when they were sent, so it's possible to reply days after the message was sent as it's only just got through to my phone.

Pretty quickly, but i will usually wait until i have exited the roundabout, or got onto the motorway and assumed my position in the middle lane (leaving the slow lane for HGVs and Honda Jazzs and the fast lane for BMWs).
Safety is more important than speed or text reply!
Excellent :-)Safety is more important than speed or text reply!
If you are getting divorced text is fantastic
It stops you bitting back at comments made in a phone call, it allows you time to measure and compose your reaction, and it is also a record of what was said when it comes to lawyering up.
Another upside is that you can stick to your word when you swear " I never want to speak to that *****again "

Ring ring
(bloke) "Hello, darling."
10 seconds pass
"OK, well I can't do anything about it now, we'll talk about it when I get home, OK?"
20 seconds pass
"OK, well I can't do anything about it now, we'll talk about it when I get home, OK?"
30 seconds pass
A bit more assertively: ""OK, well I can't do anything about it now, we'll talk about it when I get home, OK? OK then, see you about 5"
