Exactly, depending on the sender of course. I don't reply to the window cleaner when he texts to say he's coming round in the morning. Emails are to be dealt with faster than letters but less urgently than texts, and (mobile) 'phone calls are the most urgent form of communication generally. Common courtesy makes it necessary to react accordingly with the nature of the message. My 'phone always sends me a confirmation of receipt of texts sent too.I generally read all incoming texts either right away or within a few minutes if driving or doing something at work.
If it requires a prompt response then I will respond as such, if it's a lengthy reply or not time critical I will reply when I get time.
I prefer texts to phone calls. Can't explain why, it just suits me better. I find phone calls somewhat irritating.

It depends. I also drive people loopy aparently according to my mum/gran based on a conversation I had a few days ago with them.
If someone sends me a direct question like 'Oh what are you doing tomorrow' I will usually get back to them pretty quickly, What I cant stand is folks who send wishy washy empty text and expect a response 'Just got in the house, thanks for getting milk', 'arrived safely at dads, see you soon' & 'Hey [caelite] can you grab some bread well your driving home.' These 3 are actual examples of text I have gotten recently and have been whined at for not responding too. I would have responded to the last one but was sent it pretty much as I was parking infront of the house.
