Nothing to do with me. But this looks like it could be a nice little project for someone!

I think it would make a nice car but would cost around 10k excluding labour, which is a fair price for one of these. I would buy it but it's too big a project for me.

No MOT history on gov.uk so it's been off the road since at least 2005. It'll be a big job as Tony says...

Hmmm, that's on my doorstep yet I've never seen another 390SE around here since one was sold for £1800 a handful of years back - and it wasn't this one. Oddly though, I think I may have seen it at an early 'Fest (the DIY reg. plate rings bells).
From the pics it doesn't look too bad (be honest, how many other wedges don't have similar undersides), sill tubes are neither here nor there.
Sounds like he's been fannying - how the hell do you break a starter solenoid FFS?
A grand spent sensibly would probably see that as a useable car, but IMHO 5 big ones is way too spendy for a non-driver that you can't even hear run. A 350i, no problem, but a 390SE engine is too special to think you can fix it with a decoke and a gasket set.
I'd be going in at £3K tops.
And I might biggrin

Hi all
Thinking of putting in an offer on this 390 - just a quick question -are the sills on the 390 removable as per the 350i or are they part of the bodywork as per the later 400 ?
Obviously if there fixed it'll mean a body lift to fix the chassis if removable it might be do able with the body in place

Thanks Ron

Just been browsing Wedg1e website and found that the 390 has the removable sills - I really should have known that anyway...
Emailed the seller for more pics and info. Might be more than I want to take on but well see.

They were removable on the earlier shaped 390SE, but I am not sure about this later body shape, which is more like the 400SE in appearance (which, as you say, are not removable).

Edited to add that the sill appears to have an uneven panel gap front to rear, which would seem to be promising...

Yes the sills will be removable; the main difference is that where the S1 390SE had a separate rear bumper and the underwing was hung off the boot floor, the S2 has them both combined into one unit. This does mean however that the wing is not a 'real' wing, except at the ends. The whole unit is otherwise hollow (and became the back end of the 400SE).
I may be popping over to take a look myself later whistle

Snap it up someone...It won't take someone who knows what they are doing that much to sort it...If i could afford to buy it i would...I would get it to a friend who can help me store it and lift the body ...I could do the interior in a lovely cream with chocolate piped leather...Some plush chestnut coloured luxury wool carpet or maybe even some Wilton just like TVR would of used...

Then some "Bourneville" colour carpet as over mats with a cream edge

That with the walnut would look good enough to eat...smile

Looks a good project and it's a crime if not saved and sorted. The 390SE has a totally different feel engine wise to a 350i. Much more edgy, aggressive and as my lad says it sounds "dirty" compared to the sweet burble of my 350i!

Hi all
Emailed the seller yesterday for more info and pics. A guy called garry replied - seems ok - certainly didn't try to hide anything in the photos. What's apparent is that the powder coat on the chassis is peeling off quite badly in areas. How widespread it is or how bad the rust is where the powder coat is missing can probably only be judged by going and looking at it. Unfortunately that would mean a 500 mile 12 hour round trip. Garry has been upfront about the peeling powdercoat and has also mentioned at least one hole in the chassis. He has also told me that the car is currently up on stands - so a full inspection of the chassis is possible if you fancy taking a gander.
Cheers all

Does not sound good with "at least one hole in the chassis" how many more and if the hole is in board how bad are the outriggers, also sounds like its been neglected for years so perished rubbers and so on, I think it could be a money pit or just needs some tidying , now that is sitting on the fence, but you would need to carefully look over the whole car and judge for your self but by the sounds of it a body would be needed, hope someone does buy it and get it back on the road but you need to go in with your eyes wide open, I bought Priscilla knowing exactly what I was going to do to her and so far no major surprises, I did not even bother with a test drive turned up in Liverpool outside the station signed documents and drove home. Anyway back on subject if anyone buys it keep us updated and good luck to yes to who ever buys it, the way I look at it with cars like this you will have great fun and not so great fun restoring her and at the end you will know you have a car that will be good for a few years to come

Come on guys, this is rare car and only viewing will give up the truth about what is required. If your not after making money from its purchase and you enjoy fettling, spending 4k on it MUST give you a car that is worth saving (any engine issues apart)and don't forget the price advertised is almost never the price paid.

You only need to look at the results Glenn has achieved on wedges to see, if you want results you will get them.

Go and look, they are slowly rising.

Love that car Glen!

If it wasn't for the fact I really want a 400se (Yellow) Or possibly red.

I would go and take a look at this car. After having the opportunity to help a mate get a 390se back on the road after a 6 year plus layup. I've take a shine to them. As Keith said over on PH they sound NASTY (in a good way).

The colour is not ideal but I don't hate it. The interior though would have to go. When you look at the good spare roof plus the other bits, I think it would be reasonable money if you could at least hear it running! As is its a risk, but for a little less maybe worth it?
